My 'invention relates to e novel construction of n handle con plug', wherein l employ ev rigid1 elongated bundle of insulating moteriel which is boreal longitudinally to re- 5 ceive an electric cord, enel constructerl so es to .llave firmly mounted on one eml thereof one member of en attachment plus', tbere being' un outer ring surrounding the 'front end of tlle handle and seicl member of the 10 nttochment plug. Seial ring?, boring :i front anu rear inwardly deecteol lip or flange Spun upon or otherwise firmly engeging'ref spectively, the front @nfl ot seicl plug inember and a shoulder on seid elongeterl lmnflle, l5 so tliet seid parte ere rigidly; clamped to getlier or retained in jiuxtepostion, so that they are rotatable in unison n unit, solo plug member being: estenefl 'to tbe liontlle by other means, il esired.
By my novel construction ll lieve iiirmlucetl en etlieientbondle een plug, which is eepecialljy' applicable for "facilitating: the inser tion of ettskzlimentlplnge into sockets, that are so errenge or positioned that tbe-y ere 25 not easily reached, as. in tbe cese of bose boorvl outlets or Where tbe sockets are Within lone; narrow globes or slinfles, which often surround an electric light socket or nture. ,When s, socket of this character is slightly 5G out of reach, it is frequently quite clicult to plug into'it, es lor instance for connect# ing an iron. toaster, percolel/org vacuum cleaner., and tbe like. i
To the above ends, my invention consists 3% of e novel construction of en elongated, liollow' handle carrying an electric oord, and s member of an attachment plug; secured thereto "by e ring; or shell baring terminal iront oncl rear inwardly deflected, annular 49 lips or flanges, whereby said member of :m attachment plug is readily and ixeflly se curecl to said hemlle, tbe jnxtsposecl oon traction Walls ol' tbe handle oncl plugelements being let or rectilinear.
llo the above ends my invention consists of a novel oonstruction of e (le'vice of the aber eater described, Wliicli is neet end attractive in appearance, economical ci construction, anal which een be readily manually rotated w :it all points oi use, my novel Clerice being durable, reliable simple, compact, conveniont, etlcenlf, enel sotisfeetory for 11% 'slierever it sjfonn'oppllceblo v Foe the of illustretingf iny-` invene own in tbe eocompsnying Figure 1 re resents s vertical section'el View of a, han le cop plug, enel its etljuncts embodying my invention, eerteln of tbe perl-s being shown in elevation, tbe sheds enel its edjuncts surrounding tbe socket member being shown dotted..

'l designates my novel construction, ol? lanclle cap plug, the seme comprising; en elongated handle 2 having' e longituinel passage or bore 3, through 'which passes elle electric cord 4. The 'front end Il olf tbe handle is at or rectilinear, or in other words extends et u right angle to tbe-eels thereof, and is vprovidel with e connterbore 5. The Het front enel of the mensile-is lornmfl y with a enge '(3, whereby tbe reni? shoulder I is produced, which is engaged by the rear annular inturned flange 8 of the ring 9, the latter being provided with the forward or outer inwarelly delecteol flange l:l0 which engages the shoulder ll of tbe nlug member l2, which constitutes one mein-f oer of on attachment plug. The member l2 .efe
is a flat bottomed, moulded member, having which secure the terminals ot the cord Il* in position, as will be understood from `Figure l: The blades in the present instance /liave the offset feet .i7 which are secured to BIS ' are frequent-lv quite sharp.
the moulded member lf2 by the screws 18, es seen in Figures 4 and 5. ln practice the ring 9 has the lip l0 spun upon the shoulder 11, as seen in Figure 5, so that the member 12 and its adjuncts and the-ring 9 .can be handled as a unit. The lower edge ot the ring 9, as seen in Figure 5, is extended suf- `ficiently below the bottom Wall i3 of the member 12. so that it completeljiT encloses the front terminal tlange ti ot the handle 2, after which the lowerv or rear peripheral edge of said ring 9 is spun upon the shoulder 7. therebj,y 'forming the linneo 8, so that the finished article appears as seen vin Fin-lires 1 and 2; The blades 15 can be readiljr inserted into the soclret menibeijl), (seen in Fig. l), and latter can readily be rotated into or out ot position in the socket, the insertion ot the blades l5 into the socket member 19 in the usual manner completing' the electrical connection therewith. i
20 designates a lamp shade shown indotted lines, rwhich is of the shape or size re quentlv surrounding; the electrical socket or fixture 19. and is ordinznrilj,Y quite diiiicult to plug into. but hv in v invention the socket member 19 is instantly and crmvenientl;T accessible. as is evidernt.y ln Figure 2. l have shown mv invention as applicable to a base board outlet ill. 'it will be apparent that there will be no loosening oiY the ends of the cord Il* at their junction with the contact members. since the plus member l2 is tlxedl'v secured to the handle bv reason the inturncd flanges 8 and lll. 'The-handle il tur`- ther serves as a protection ier the `cord el",
from contacting since it prevents the l i u 'trade 20, vvlncn with the. lower edges ot the l have shown the top o'r-the member 12 es slightlv counterbored to receive the ends of the cord 4*'. but it 'will be apparent that this construction can be varied ir desired, ac cordine to requirements.
While I have shown mv invention ae adapted to the attachment ping. ot the more generally used t'vpeM one member of which comprises the disc l2 having the standard parallel blades or prongs 15, itat/ill be apperent that mv' invention is equallv adapt-r able to other types oi" plugs the swivel type, wherein onelmember maybe rotated en ineens-e pushed within the coacting attachment member.
ln the construction seen in Figures 6 and 7, l have shown. a different embodiment of the broad principle of my invention, Where in a different construction of the cap inember is shown secured or united to the elongated handle member by an equivalent mean.l` or fastening dev-ice.
ln Figure o l have shown my novel device 22 as composed of the elongated handle memberl 23 having the bore or passage 24 therethrough, which is adapted for the reception of electric Wires el", as seen in Figs. l and 2. The end ot Vthe handle 23- is cup shaped or conceved, as indicated at, 25 and receives the convex bottom portion of the moulrv id member 26. which is provided with the blades 2?' and their adjuncts, all of subs'tantiallyv the 'seme construction, as seen in Figures et and 5, l
The shellor ringn 28, which serves to unite the moulded or cap member 26,' with the contiguous handle portiorn has the front in- Wardlf,v deflected lip or flange 29, which lixedly engages the front of the member 26, While the rear portion of said ring is spun or otherwise pressed or formed around the convex portion 30 of 'the handle 23, as indicated at 3l, so as to term a lunitary structure. l
The cap member Q6 is provided with the axial passage 32. so as to enable the electric Wires to be readily connected to the binding posts oi said cap member 2G. j
While the construction seen in, Figures 6 and 7 may be a little more expensive to manufacture and assemble, than the construction seen in Figs. 1 to 5, -it is a substantial equivalent thereof as will be apparent". l
ln all the embodiments of my invention. it Will be apparentthat the elongated handle and the moulded member. disc, or cap member can be, readily asscmblerh'and manipulated as a unit., and all the structures embody the broad principles `and advantages pointed out with reference to Figures l to 5u lt will. new be apparent that l have devised a novel and useful construction of handle cap plug: which embodies the features vof advantage enumerated as desirable in the 1. An lattachment plue cap of an elongated type, comprising a isc-like member of insulating material, metal contact blades are attached the-reto. an elongated handle"l l tallic tubular member having front and rear inwardly deflected fianges engaging the front b end of said disc-like member and the shouli der of the handle member to rigidly hold them together.
2. In a device of the character stated, a rigid elongated handle of insulating mate- 1rial having a front flat end and a front terminal liange forming a rear shoulder, said handle being bored longitudinally to receive an electric cord, a flat bottomed attachment plug member in contact with the front flat end of said handle, and a locking ring having a front inwardly deflected peripheral. flange in fixed engagement with the front of said plug member, and a rear inwardly de fieeted peripheral ilange in fixed engagement with the shoulder oi said handle. v
3. In a device of thefcharacter stated, a
.rigid elongated ,handle member having a terminal shoulder at an end thereof, said handle member being bored longitudinally to receive an electric cord, an attachment er having an' opening therthrough in operative alignment with the bore of saidhandle member for receiving the end of an electric cord, and a metallic tubular member surrounding said end of 'said handle member and said ylug member having a front terminal andJ inwardly extending peripheral flange in engagement with the front end of said plug member and having a rear terminal and inwardly extending peripheral flange in engagement with the shoulder of said handle member.
