Description

July 27,1926. 1,594,337 I I A.' J. NEMEc JACKET FOR Mon-Ds Filed Sept. 13, 1923 v 7* es. i
/9451' L v l J m1 /8 /f Im/e-ntowr:A Anton J. Newweeo` His Attorney.
I have found sin actual practice fthat these jackets prevent injury to the molds both before and during the pouring operation,V
andiithusqthe output'ofa foundry can be increased-and there;A are less losses due to rejections. On account of the fact that the mold is jacketed I find that at least insome cases, a somewhat smaller mold for a given job may be used, thanlwhere- Vitis unsupported whichof itself is important for obviousyreasons.
'Inaccordance with' the provisions-of the patent statutes, I have v'described ,the prin ciple of-operationvcfmy invention, together withth'e apparatus vwhich I now consider to represent 'the best embodiment thereof, 4but I Vdesire to .have it. understood 'that the apparatus shown is only illustrative and that the invention may be carried out' by other means.
`IVliat I claim as new and desire to secure by "Letters Patent of the United StatesY is '1. A jacketY for a sand mold" having substantia'lly. vertical faces, said j aclet comprising-a rigid'frame which conforms in shape to and` is slightly smaller inplan than the mold to bejacketed, 'the edge vsurfaces on one side of said'frame acting from the vertical faces of the mold as cutters to shave off jtheeXcess sand as lit isl pushed over the mold to its"final position.
aok'etffora mold comprising a rigid open-ended substantially rectangular boxlike "frame j having plane interior surfaces and cutting surfaces along the lower edge and which isadapted to be pushed Adown overa ysand-mold to confine the same, said cutting surfaces shaving off the excess sand from the'facesof the mold as'thev fra-me is moved tolits final; position.
MAQjacket for. a sand mold comprising an openfended substantially .rectangular box-like f frame having pla-ne yinterior walls and cutting surfaces alongjthe lower edge thereofand -means providing other cutting surfa'ces' in ,and flush withthe walls ofthe frame, said jacket being viadaptedfto be pushed down over a sand mold to confine the same and in so doing to shave olf the excess sand from the faces thereof.
4. Ajaclzet for a mold comprising end and side members which are united at their meetingfedges to form an open-ended substantially rectangular box, the interior walls ofwhich are plane: surfaces, and which in plan is slightly smaller than the mold, said members ,being provided rwith cutting surfaces along their lower edges to remove excess sand from' the moldfaceswhile being` moved to a final position.
A jacket for a sand mold comprising end and side members Vwhich are united at their meeting edges to "form an open-ended substantially rectangular box, "the interior walls of whichl are plane surfaces and -which in plan vis slightly smaller than the mold, said members beingV provided with cutting surfaces.along-their'lower 'edges and also with a plurality of outwardlyefiared openings, said openings providing cutting edges in andlush withv the interior walls, which edges cooperate withl the cutting surfaces to shave off excess sand from-the mold faces from top to bottoni'vfhile .being moved to a final position.
6. A mold .jacket of rectangular' box-like structure, open' top and bottom .and ycom-` prising vertical end and sidemembers having plane `interior surfaces, and' being in ,lan of slightly smaller sizeA than a mold whereby it is adapted to be .pushed down. over said mold to confine the same, said jacket' being provided with cutting surfaces along the' bottom edges of the members and' plurality of outwardly-'flaring openings extending through said members, said openings serving to Vent the jacket. and providing` cutting edges at' their inner ends 'flush with the interior surfaces of said members. In witness whereof, I hereunto set my hand this tenth 'day of Septei'nber, i923.
ANTON J. N EMEC.
