The object of this invention is to provide means for preventing the leading ends of the sheets from folding back.
My invention more particularly includes a pair of sheet guide fingers arranged to receive the sheets between them and the fly fingers, said guide fingers being automatically moved outwardly beyond the sides of the sheets as the fly is turned to deliver the sheets.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 represents in detail side elevation so much of a fly delivery for sheets, as includes my invention, the fly and the sheet guide fingers being in position for receiving the sheets between them.

Fig. 3 represents a detail cross section taken in the plane of the line III-III of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 represents a View similar to Fig. 1, with the parts in the positions they assume when the fly has been turned part way toward its sheet delivery point and the sheet guide fingers moved outwardly beyond the sides of the sheet being delivered.

The fly shaft comprises the portions 1 and 2 suitably journaled in the side frames and the intermediate offset portion 3. The usual fly fingers l for receiving the sheets thereon have their sockets 5- adjustably mounted along the rod 6. which rod is carried by the flyshaft parallel to but spaced from the in- Serial No. 4,229.
termediate portion 3 and offset from the axis of the end portions 1 and 2.
Certain of the fly fingers 4 are provided with the usual adjustable sheet stops 7 arranged in position to engage the leading ends of the sheets as they are run out onto the fly fingers. The fly is operated in the usual manner through the rack and segment 8 and 9.
The means which I have shown for preventing theleading end of the sheet from folding back upon the body of the sheet as the sheet is run out onto the fly fingers 4 and for permitting the sheet to be properly delivered by the fly, is constructed, arranged and operated as follows:
Two top sheet guide fingers 10, one for each side of the sheet are arranged in position to receive the sheet between them and the fly fingers 4 as the sheet is run out onto the said fly fingers, the guide fingers 10 being adjustable laterally for overlapping the sides of the sheet to the desired extent and to accommodate them for sheets of different widths.
Each of these guide fingers 10 has its socket 11 slidably mounted on, the ofl'set intermediate portion 3 of the fly shaft, as, for instance, by providing the said intermediate portion with strips 12 forming an undercut groove, in which said socket 11 slides. Each guide finger is yieldingly held at the limit of its inward movement overlapping the top side of the sheet as the sheet is run out onto the fly fingers 4-, by a tension spring 13 having one end attached to the guide finger socket 11 and its other end attached to an anchor block 14 which is adjustable along the intermediate portion of the fly shaft in the undercut groove formed by the strips 12, so that the proper tension may be im parted to the spring and so that the quick ingers may be adjusted to sheets of different widths.
Each of these guide fingers 10 is pulled outwardly off from the top side of the sheet as the fly is being turned to deliver the sheet, by a flexible connection 15, one end of which is adju-stably fastened to a cleat 16 on the side frame and the other end of which is attached to the guide finger socket 11; the intermediate portion of the flexible connec tion passing first over a pulley 17 on the end of the fly shaft concentric with its axis and then over a pulley 18 carried by the flyshaft at an angle and eccentric to its axis. This arrangement causes the guide fingers to be moved outwardly off from the top sides of the sheet automatically as the fly is turned to deliver the sheets.
The position of each of the guide fingers may be adjusted to sheets of different widths by unfastening the flexible connection 15 from its cleat 16 and then adjusting the position of the spring anchor block 1% along the intermediate portion 3 of the fly shaft.
From the above description it will be Seen that I have provided a very simple and effective adjustable means for preventing the folding back of the leading ends of the sheets as they are run out onto the fly fingers 4-, said means being automatically moved out of the Way to permit the proper delivery of the sheets as the fly is turned.
It is evident that various changes may be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts Without de-- parting from the spirit and scope of my invention; hence, I do not intend to be limited to the particular embodiment herein shown and described, butlVhat I claim is 1. In a fly delivery for sheets, a fly and sheet guides overlapping the sides of the sheets for preventing the leading ends of the sheets from being folded back as they are run out onto the fly, said guides being automatically moved beyond the sides of the sheets as the fly is turned to deliver the sheets, the means for moving the guides in cluding spring tension devices for yieldingly holding the guides in their sheet side overlapping positions, and flexible connections, each having one end secured to a fixed support and its other end to its guide and passing around two adjacent pulleys, one arranged on the axis of the'fly and the other eccentric and at an angle thereto.

In a fly delivery for sheets, a fly and sheet guides carried by-the, overlapping the sides of the sheets for-"preventing the leading ends of the sheets from being folded back as they are run out onto the fly, said guides being automatically movable beyond the sides of the sheets as the fly is turned to deliver the sheets, the means for moving the guides including spring tension devices for yieldingly holding the guides in their sheet side overlapping positions, and flexible connections, each having one end secured to a fixed support and its other end to its guide and passing around two adjacent pulleys, one arranged on the axis of the fly and the other eccentric and at an angle thereto.

In a fly delivery for sheets, a fly, sheet guides overlapping the sides of the sheets for preventing the leading endsof the sheets from being folded back as they are run out onto the fly, said guides being automatically moved beyond the sides of the sheets as the fly is turned to deliver the sheets, the means for moving the guides including spring tension devices for yieldingly holding the guides in their sheet side overlapping positions, and flexible connections, each having one end secured to a fixed support and its other end to its guide and passing around two adjacent pulleys, one arranged on the axis of the fly and the other eccentric and at an angle thereto, the tension devices and the flexible connections being adjustable to adjust the guides to accommodate them for sheets of different widths.
12. In a fly delivery for sheets, a fly, sheet guides carried by the fly overlapping the sides of the sheets for preventing the leading ends of the sheets from being folded back as they are run out onto the fly, said guides being automatically moved beyond the sides of the sheets as the fly is turned to deliver the sheets, the means for moving the guides including spring tension devices for yieldingly holding the guides in their sheet side overlapping positions, and flexible connections, each having one end secured to a fixed support and its other end to its guide and passing around two adjacent pulleys, one arranged on the axis of the fly and the other eccentric and at an angle thereto, the tension devices and the flexible connections being adjustable to adjust the guides to accommodate them for sheets of different Widths.
