Description

Patented July 20, 1926.
Unire sra'rgss ALQS .BARREL AOIE' .,STn, CLAIR SHORE MICHIGAN.
CRIB. l
Application "filed November rllhis i-nvention relates to certain improvemei-'i-ts in cribs and an object of the'inven-r tion is Lto provide a Adevice `of this l'rind which may be readily assembled Vor taken down vas desired.
Another obrject ofthe invention-is to provide a device of lthis kind ,provided with means whereby the occupant is `elfectively protected against insects and .the dike.
ilhe .invention consists `in the-details vof construir-:tionand in'the combination and-arrangement of the several parts of my improved crib `whereby certain important -advantages are attained and the device frendered simpler, fless .,ex pensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be deiinitely claimed.
ln order that my invention may be the better understood, l will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical sectional View taken through a crib constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken through the housing for the top screen herein disclosed;
'Figure 3 is a fragmentary view in top plan of the structure as illustrated in Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a view in perspective of the top screen unapplied and substantially entirely rolled;
Figure 5 is a view of somewhat a diagran'nnatic character illustrating the means herein employed for holding the sections of the crib in assembled relation.
As herein disclosed, my improved crib comprises the end sections A. and B denotes a side section, it being understood that two of such sections B are employed. The end sections A include the corner posts 1 each of which having positioned thereon at desired points a plate 2 having a keyhole slot 3 to provide means whereby a headed member fl; carried by a side section B may be readily interloclied with the plate 2 and thereby hold the end and side sections in assembled relation yet at the same time permitting a ready separation when it is desired to knock down the crib.
Each of the end and side sections A and B comprises the screened panels 5 and the 17, 1925. Serial No. 69,652.
crib bottom, -asl-ilerein disclosed, consists =of a conventional `"type of `spring Ssupported by :the inwardly .disposed brackets 61carrietl by .the posts =1. Extending along the top rail 7 of one of the end :sections rAlie `a housing or casing H 'the same` .,p-roiecting beyond the ,opposite sides .of said section as particularly yillustrated yin EFigure f3 -of the dra-wings. The shousing 'for 'casing f'H is substantially semi-circular lin cross -section and :has one longitudinal .marginal portion 8 .-tangentially `disposed l and ,terminating .in an :outstanding :iiange 9 iwhich, :when the `.housing orf casing is :in applied fposi tion, is.adiapted rtozbe attached to itl1e-top rail 7. The ends of the housing or casing H are normally open but each of said end portions is closed by a head 10 having its peripheral portion provided therearound with the inwardly disposed ngers 11 alternately overlapping the outer and inner faces of an end portion of the housing or casing H as is particularly illustrated in Figures 2 and 3 of the accompanying drawings. Each of the heads 10 is provided with an extended portion 12 terminating in an inwardly disposed angular flange 14 adapted to Contact with the adjacent end of the rail 7 and suitably secured thereto whereby the housing or casing H is further maintained in applied position.
The upper marginal portion of the housing or casing H, when the same is in applied position, is spacedfrom the rail -7 providing a slot 15 through which a cloth screen 16 may readily pass. The screen 16 is adapted to be wound upon a conventinal screen roller 17 mounted within the housing or casing H. lVhen extended, the screen 16 extends across the top of the crib and has its outer end portion provided with the eye members 18 each of which being adapted to have engagement with a hook 19 can ried by the top rail 7 of the opposite end section A. When the screen 16 is freed from therail 7 such screen will readily wind upon the roller 17 and be substantially coniined Within the housing or casing H when such screen 16 is not in use.
From the foregoing description it is thought to vbe obvious that a crib constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will `also be obvious that my invention isgV susceptible of some change and modification Without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not Wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim 1. A. crib comprising end sections, side sections and a bottom, a housing disposed along the upper portion of one of the end sections, a roller within the housing, a screen adapted to 'Wind upon said roller and be confined substantially Within the housing when not in use, said screen lwhen extended being disposed across and closing the top of the crib, the outer end of said screen, and the second end section of the crib being provided with coacting means for holding said screen in its extended position, said housing having its opposite ends initially open, a head for each end of the housing-being provided With inwardly disposed fingers, said fingers alternately engaging the outer and inner faces of the housing.
2. A crib comprising end sections, side sections and a bottom, a housing disposed along the upper portion of one of the end sections, a roller Within the housing, a screen adapted to Wind upon said roller and be confined substantially within the housing when not in use, said screen when extended being disposed across and closing the top of the crib, the outer end of said screen, and the second end section of the crib being provided Vwith coacting means for holding said screen in its extended position, said housing having its opposite ends initially open, a head for each end of the housing being provided With inwardly disposed fingers, said fingers alternately engaging the outer and inner faces of the housing, and means for securing said head to the adjacent end section of the crib.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aHix my signature.
ALOIS HABERL.
