Description
July 20 1926. 1,593,158
C. BRADLEY cow TAIL HOLDER Filed April 13, 192e 4 [n ventor wf/MZZMJ mdlay Attorney Patented July 20, 1926.
UNITED sTATes CORNELIUS BRADLEY, OF RYDAL, PENNSYLVANIA.
COW-TAIL HOLDER.
Application sled April 13, 192e. serial No. 101,742.
This invention relates to a cow tail holder and has for its primary object to improve and simplify articles of this general character.
To the attainment of this end, my holder is in the form of a single unit consisting of a pair of metallic strips pivotally intercon nected intermediate their ends and so cooperatively constructed at their ends as to provide a leg clasp and a tail clasp at opposite ends of the unit.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of such a single unit where in the metallic strips are forcibly maintained at opposite ends of the unit upon the legand tail respectively of the animal, the metallic strip being further so cooperatively constructed intermediate their ends as to facilitate the ready opening of the clasps when it is desired to apply or remove the same.
Other objects will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood and when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application and in which like numerals designate like part-s throughout the views Figure l is a top plan view of my improved cow tail holder.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof, and Figure 3 is a side elevation of the metallic strips prior to it being` bent into proper shape to cooperate with the other properly bent strips to provide the present holder.
Now having particular reference to the drawing, my novel cow tail holder constitutes the provision of a pair of suitable length strips of metal 5 5 that are formed adjacent their forward endswith inwardly struck semi-circular ears 6 6 that are adapted for overlapping relation as shown in Figure l, in order that said strips may be pivotally interconnected as at 7. The forward ends of the strips are bent into substantially semi-ovular shape to provide jaws 8 8 of a clasp that is adapted for engagement with the hoek of a cows leg.
The metallic strips rearwardly of the ears 6 6 are bent outwardly as at 9 9to provide handles for facilitating the opening of the jaws of the clasp and thence inwardly as at 10 l0, the upper edge of the inwardly bent portion 10 of one strip being notched in such a relationship as to bind the clasps as at 11 throughout substantially its entire length while the lower edge of the inwardly bent portion l0 of the other strip is notched as at l2, also throughout substantially its entire length in order that said portions lO lO will ride over each other during the opening and closing of the jaws 8 8 of said cow leg clasps.
At the eXtreme inner end of the inwardly bent portions l0 10 of said metallic strips 5 5, the same are bent rearwardly in a horizontal plane for providing jaws 13 13 that are milled on their inner faces for providing a clasp for the cows tail.
The outwardly bent portions 9 9 of the strip are formed with transversely registering openings 14; within which are anchored the ends l5 15 of a helical spring 16, said ends being bent forwardly and in outwardly converging relation as clearly disclosed in Figure l.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel, simple, and efficient form of cow'tail holder that is well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated, even though I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that modilications may be had without effecting the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invent-ion, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a cow tail holder of the character described. a single unit consisting of a pair of metallic strips pivotally interconnected intermediate their ends and being so cooperatively constructed at their ends as to provide a normally closed animal leg ciasps, and an animal tail clasp.
2. In a cow tail holder ot the character described, a single unitconsisting of a pair of metallic strips pivotally interconnected intermediate their ends and being so cooperatively constructed at` their ends as to provide a normally closed animal leg clasps, an animal tail clasp, and means for normally maintaining said clasps in closed position.
3. In a cow tail holder of the character described, a pair of metallic strips pivotally interconnected intermediate their ends, cooperating clasp jaws formed at certain ends of the strips, outwardly converging clasp opening handle members at the opposite sides of the pivotal connection, inwardly converging overlapping portions at the ends of said handle members, and ,cooperating jaw plates in ,the ends of the said inwardly converging portion for providing a tail clasp. Y
4l. In a cow tai-l holder of the character described, a pair of metallic strips .pivotally interconnected intermediate their ends, cooperating clasp jaws for-med at certain ends` of the strips, outwardly converging clasp opening handle members at the opposite sides of the pivotal connection, inwardly converging overlapping portions at the ends of said handle members, cooperating jaw plates in the ends of the said inwardly converging portion for providing a tail clasp, and spring means for normally maintaining the clasp jaws and jaw plates in closed position.
In testimony whereof I a); my signa ture.
CGRNELUS BRADLEY.
