This invention relates to improvements in wringer tripping devices.
The principal object of this invention is to provide means whereby the rollers of a I wringer may be automatically relieved of' their tension.
Another object is to provide a simple device which may be attached to the ordinary wringer having a releasing mechanism,
without materially altering the construction of the wringer.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a device of this character which will operate from either side of the wringer,
one which is simple in construction, and
therefore cheap to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during. the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,

It is common practise to so arrange the rolls of the wringer that the same may be separated when desired, so as to prevent the crushing of the hands or so as to prevent further feeding of the clothes thereto, should they become tangled in some manner.
It is to this type of wringer that I attach a pair of pus er plates which are adapted to release the tension mechanism causing the rolls to automatically separate.
In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numerals 5 and 6 refer to castings which are pivoted to one another at 11 and which carry rollers 7 and 8, respectively. These rollers are of the usual type common to scribed is that when a person operating a wringers and may be rotated in any convenient manner.
The casting 5 has a yoke 9 pivoted thereto as shown at 11, the lower extremity of which yoke is engaged by one end of a spring 12. The center portion of this spring passes beneath a cross piece 13 and has its opposite end engaged by 9. depending link 14 which is confined in an extension 16 formed upon the casting 6. This link car 5 ries upon its free end a block 17 through which an adjusting screw 18 passes. This adjusting screw is provided with a suitable handle 19 to facilitate the turning of the same.
The lower extremity of this adjusting screw contacts a projection 20 formed upon the casting 5 the result being that when the adjusting screw is caused to bear upon-the projection 20 the link 14 will be drawn upwardly thereby transmitting the pressure of the spring 12 to the upper casting 5 and in this manner holding the rollers in intimate contact one with the other.
The construction thus far described relates to a wringer mechanism such as described in Patent Number 1,523,326, granted to me January 13th, 1925. To the casting 6 and on each side thereof I pivot releasing plates 21 and 22. Each of these plates is provided with a downwardly extending lug 23 and as the construction is identical on both sides of the machine but one side will be described.
This lug 23 is adapted to bear against the bent end 24 of the actuating rod26 which actuating rod is slidably supported upon the side of the casting 6 in a suitable manner as for example in the manner as shown at 27. and 28. The opposite end of this actuating rod is bent upwardly as at 29 so as to contact the upper end of the link 14. It
will here be noted that the pivotal point of the link 14 and the block 17 is directly above the bearing point of the link 14 with the spring 12, the reason for which is that when the handle 19 is moved in the direction of the arrow of Figure 3, the spring 12 will cause the screw 18 to assume the position shown in Figure 6 thereby releasing the upper casting and its roller from pressure contact with the roller in the casting 6.
The result of the construction above dewringer having my invention attached thereno to wishes to quickly release the pressure between the rollers, it is merely necessary to press down upon one of the plates, for instance, the plate 21 which will cause the lug 23 to bear against the turned end 24 of the actuating rod 26. This will cause the actuating rod to move in the direction of the arrow thereon in Figure 3 and will push the link 14 toward the rlght'of the drawing and cause the screw 18 to be moved over the projection 20 thereby releasing the pressure between the rollers 7 and 8.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the Having thus described my invention, I claim In a device of the character described, the combination with a wrin er having a pair of rollers normally hel in pressure contact and havin quick releasing means for holding said ro ers in contact with each other, plates pivotally secured to said wringer, lugs extending downwardly from said plates, actuating rods secured to said wringer and having bent ends formed on said rods and positioned to be contacted by said lugs for the purpose of moving said rods laterally when downward pressure is applied to either of said plates, said rods moving said quick releasing mechanism fo the purpose specified.
