CHICKEN COOP.

This invention relates to chicken coops. and has for its object a combination of devices that will enable one to maintain a coop in a healthful and sanitary condition both for the fowls housed therein and for the people who have to be near to them. The object is attained through the means set forth in this specification andthe accompanying' drawings, in both of which like letters refer to similar parts in the several figures, and their description.

Referring' to the drawings, Fig'. l is a side elevation of the features of the invention, showing a movable platform to be in its normal place. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same features with the movable platform shown outside of the coop. Fig. 3 is a plan of the devices in position as in Fig. Fig". l; is an enlarged transverse sectional view of the plat-form supports. Fig. 5 is a like presentation of the supports for the perch.

Figs. l, n, 3 represent a wall y which will be considered as the outside wall of 'the coop, to the left of the wall the. inside and to the right vof the wall the outside of the coop. Preferably upon a framed standard, as at 7. that may be of any desirable length and width, a perch or perches. as p', are erected. Upon the ends of the standard are traclr bars t, which may be angle bars of iron or steel. A platform Z about covering' the standard is providedwith flanged wheels n to traverse the tracks t. The said tracks are `given an inclination from the inner side of the standard to the track support 'a outside of the coop. At the extreme outer ends of the tracks they are given an upward turn o. to serve as a check to the platform, as in Fig. Q. The inclination of the tracks is xgiven to admit of the platform descending.; by gravity from the position shown in Fig. l to that in Fig. 2.

Upon the inner side of the standard i", Fig'. 3, are bearings In. n that support a .shaft m. One end ofthe shaft is made to receive a crank D, and midway of the bear- :ings is a winding` drum m. To the drum one end of a flexible fabric or metallic belt or strap p is secured and the other end of the strap is attached to the front axle under the platform Z, as at p2, Fig. B. A reason will be stated for not attaching the strap directly to the platform. By these means. turning` the crank in one direction allows the platform to glide down the inof the shaft is an arm e and at the other end is an arm le. Connecting these arms is a cm'ved plate so that when the shaft is turned the plate moves with the arms that are fast on the shaft. An upward extension e of the arm 'le provides for pivoting to it of a handle arm c', Figs. l, 2 and 3, that extends towards and near to the crank end of the shaft m, so it can be manipulated by au operator at the crank. In the under side of 'the arm are notches y' that are adapted to engage with a bracket i convenientlyY located. 'Lifting and pulling the arm causes the liftingrof the ends of the arms c and le, and lifting and pushing the arml z' causes a lowering of those arms.

Upon the crank end of the shaft m is a sprocket wheel g. Upon the shaft m .is a brush ce that is a trifle longer than the length of the platform Z, and upon the outer end of the brush shaft is a pinion b which engages with the spur wheel c.
