Letters Patent No. 1,415,597 granted to me May 9th, 1922, and the invention ispredicated upon the same conditions as those se t forth in the preamble of the specification of the above referred to patent. i

My object, generally stated, is to provide 10 for the relieving of persons inreclining position from discomfort or pain resulting from certain portionsof the'body, by reason of the weight thereof, pressing against the mattress portionof the bed, where no means are rovided for relievin ,either wholly or partially, such portions 0 the body from the discomforting pressure. v. 1 The garment shown is provided with" such II Q the sleeve and body portion of the garan arrangement of the pockets referred to that the garment is adapted to either wholly, or partially, relieve the pressure of the weight of the person against all of those portions of the person which are subjected to undesirable pressure, due to the weight of the person, when theperson is reclining on a mattress. To this end, the garment is provided with four pockets, which extend generally lengthwise of the garment, at opposite sides of the center thereof, these pockets at each side being formed of two pairs 9 and '10, the pockets 9 being spaced apart from the pockets 10 as shown, thereby to provide between these pockets at opposite sides of the garment the recessed portions 11 adapted to receive the shoulder blades of the person, the padding provided at these pocket portions thus extending at opposite sides of the shoulder blades. The garment is also provided at each side. of its center line and below'the. pockets 10, with pockets 12 arranged in an arc-shape series, which extend slightly below the shoulder blades of the person to whom the garent is applied and partway under the arms, adjacent the arm pits, thereby relieving the weight from those ribs of the person which, if no padding were provided, would be subject to undesirable pressure. The inner side of the garment is also provided with a trangular arrangement of pockets 13 located at the center line of the garment and so arranged that the space 14 provided therebetween registers with the lower end of the spine of the person.

As a means for accomplishing this resuit, the garment is shown as provided with the straps 2 1-, 25 and 26, the straps 24 being provided for strapping the sleeve portions of the garment at its padded portions to the arms of the person, the straps 25 for the purpose of strapping the garment about the waist of the person and the straps 26 for strapping the garment, at its-lower padded portions, about the legs of the person. In order that the straps 24 may be readily accessible, the. sleeve portions ofthe garment are open along one edge, close to the innermost edges of the pockets 20.

It will be appreciated that byutilizing'my invention, a person in lying down is rendered more comfortable, particularly where the person has sore spots which would be subject to such pressure normally, as to create discomfort -or pain, such, as for example in the case of rheumatism and bed-sores.

According to the particular arrangement shown, the bodies of padding 6 may be readily removed from the pockets, thereby permitting the garment to be laundered, as in the case of any other washable garment, without damaging or impairing the padding material. A garment provided as described and shown, is adapted for use in conduci-ng to the comfort of a normal person through a more even distribution of pressure against those portions of the person which oppose the mattress, and is also adapted to the relieving of sore parts'of the patient and which normally would bear with undesirable pressure against the mattress, from objectionable pressure. However, many cases may arise in which it may be found desirable to position the bodies of padding otherwise than as shown, in which case the structure would be accordingly altered to suit the particular condition presented and provide the padding its accidental displacement.
