after being amplified in a well known manner by tubes 3 and 4 is impressed upon the circuit containing receiver 8, thus causing the receiver to reproduce the sound with sufficient strength for it to be clearly heard by one partially deaf. The primary of transformer 7 is shunted by a variable resistance 9 which can be adjusted to regulate the voltage applied to the amplifiers and hence regulate the volume of the sound the receiver, to a value which is comfortable for the user.

The entire. apparatus with the exception of the transmitter and receiver is arranged in a case 10 which may be placed in the pocket of one using the invention. The top of case. 10 is provided with binding posts for attachment of the conductors leading to the transmitter and the receiver. The receiver 8 may be conveniently secured adjacent the ear of the user by a head band 11 and may be connected to the apparatus by means of a duplex cord 12 which-passes under the wearers coat at the collar and hence is quite inconspicuous. The transmitter 1 may be of any suitable form provided at its base with metallic loops 13 through which is passed a strap 14 having a buckle 15 by means of which it may be conveniently attached to the wrist of the wearer. leather flap 16 sewed to the strap covers the metallic loops 13 and prevents them from being felt by the user. The transmitter may be conveniently connected to the apparatus by means of a duplex cord 17 which passesfront of the lips of one s transmitter and a telephone receiver, means to holdthe receiver adjacent the ear of a user, and means to attach the transmitter to thewrist of a user in a relatively fixed rethe wrist of a user.

A deaf set comprising a telephone receiver and means for associating said receiver with the ear of the user, a telephone transmitter and'means for securing the said transmitter in a fixed relation to the wrist of the user, and circuit for operatively connecting said transmitter to said receiver.

4. A deaf set comprising a telephone receiver and means for associating said receiver with the ear of the user, a telephone transmitter and means for securing the said transmitter in a fixed relation to the wrist of the user, circuit for operatively connectlng said transmitter to said receiver, and a source of energy in said circuit adapted to be carried by the user.
