Description

July 13,1926. 1,592,172
N. BALDWIN TELEPHONE RECEIVER Filed Feb. 19, 1926 ATTORNEY Patented July 13, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TELEPHONE RECEIVER.
Application filed February 19, 1926. Serial No. 89,430.
The present invention appertains to telephone receivers of the class in which an electrically operated armature is fulcrumed within the spool containing the actuating coil and is operatively connected with a diaphragm.
- The object is to provide a simple, eflicient and durable fulcrum for such armatures that will not get loose nor rattle.
I attain this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 isan elevation of a spool containing the armature withthe improved fulcrum device, Fig. 2 is a section of'the same spool along the line A B of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the armature and fulcrum device; Fig. 4 is an elevation of a spool containing a modified form of the fulcrum device shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3; Fig. 5 is a section of the same spool along the line C D of Fig. 4: and Fig. 6 is a plan view of the armature and modified fulcrum device. I
In the several figures of the drawing numeral 1 designates the spool within which a fulcrumis provided for the armature z. This fulcrum preferably may be a loop of wire 3. the ends of which are soldered or otherwise secured to the central tubular portion 4, of the spool. A spring 5 preferably made of wire in an S-shape placed between the armature and tubular portion .4 of the spool is so shaped as to produce tension on the fulcrum wire loop3. The purpose of the spring 5 is to keep the armature firmly in contact with the fulcrum wire loop 3 and prevent rattling.
The spring 5 shown in Figs. 4, 5, and 6 said tubular center is modified in shape and designed to exert a force on the armature tending to tipit and produce tension on the diaphragm through the link 6. This form of spring may be used with such forms of diaphragms as require tension and thus S81 ve a double purpose.
I claim- 1. In a telephone receiver of the class described, a spool having a tubular center. an armature within said tubular spool center, fulcrum wires supporting said armature within said tubular center and a spring within said tubular center adapted to put tension on said fulcrum wires. I
2. In a telephone receiver of the class described, a spool having a tubular center. an armature within said tubular spool center, fulcrum ,Wires supporting said armature within said tubular center and a wire spring within said tubular center adapted to put tension on said fulcrum wires.
3. In a telephone receiver of the class described, a spool having a tubular center. an armature within said tubular spool center, fulcrum wires supporting said armature within said tubular center, a wire spring within said tubular center adapted to put tension on said fulcrum wires and adapted to tip said'armature upon its fulcrum.
4. In a telephone receiver of the class described, a spool having a tubular center, an armature within said tubular center, a fulcrum for said armature and a spring within pressing said armature against said fulcrum.
NATHANIEL BALDWIN.
