SPOKE-TIGHTENENG JACK.
Application filed February 1,1926. Serial No. 85,216.
'1 iis invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in spoke tightening jacks and the primary object thereof is to provide jack of this type which is of simplified and economical construction, which is of easy and positive operation, and which employs a minimum of parts compactly assembled.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is aside edge elevation of the invention applied to a wheel, the latter shown in fragment;
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 2 01' Fig.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 38 of Fig. and
ig. 1 is a section on line 1 er Fig. 2.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a read or body 1 is provided having a nose 2 at its lower end formed to engage the hub of the wheel the adjacent parts of two adjacent spokes as illustrated. in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The body 1 has a pair of spaced parallel arms 3 projecting upwardly therefrom the arms being each formed with two series of perforations at, the perforations of the two series being relatively staggered and receiving a pivotal pin 5 therein of the cam head 6 oilever '4'.
A jaw 8 is slidably carried by and he- 'ween the arms 3 and is formed with dearessions 9 on its opposite side faces wi ich 'orrn side flanges 10, the latter guidingly engaging the arms 3. The jaw 8 has a longitudinal slot 11 through which a pin 12 secured to the arms 3 projects so as to prevent disengagement of the jaw and the body 1. i
The earn 6 acts directly on and against the lower end of the jaw 8 and by removing pin 5 and placing same in the desired perforations of the arms 3, therjack may be adjusted to wheels of varying diameters.
In use, the desired adjustment is first made, whereupon the nose 2 and jaw 8 are engaged with the hub and telloe respectively and lever 7 moved downwardly to move the felloe away from the spoke and the shoulder or the la ter, whereupon a collar or packing is introduced between the shoulder and felloe to thus tighten the spoke.
What is claimed is In a spoke tightening jack, a body having a head formed with a nose, a pair of spaced arms projecting outwardly from the head and each formed with a series of perforations, a substantially lJ-shaped jaw having its arms connected by a relatively thin centrally disposed web, adapted to form de- 69 pressed portions forming guide flanges which engage the. sides of the arms of the head, said web having a longitudinal slot,
a pin carried by the arms of the head and exteneing through said slot, a pin engageable in selected perforations or" the arms of the head, and a lever having a cam pivotal- 1y supported by the last named pin between the arms and engaged with the inner end of the jaw.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CHARLES C. PAR-K.
