THOMAS RAYMOND ARDEN, OF BELLEIORE, NEXV YORK, ASSIGNOR TO JULIUS CHEIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.; ELIZABETH H. CHEIN EXECUTRIX OF SAID JULIUS CHEIIT,
DECEASED.
Application filed July 30,
My invention relates'to in'iprovements in toys; .an object of my invention is to provide a simple, attractive and useful toy which may be cheaply constructed. An-
thcr object of my invention is to provide a toy in which the parts are secured in position by a novel and simple means. 7
2, 3, et, and 5. The .rear slots 4 and are lac provided with enlarged apertures 4 and 5 respectively adjacent their forward ends.
Suitable railings 6, 7 may be provided, if desired, on the sides of the platform 1.
The horses 8 and 9 may be of any desired pattern and are cut from blanks. They are of counterpart construction as to their lower operative parts, which include representations of hind legs 10 and of front legs 11. On the hind legs section 10, which are adapted to be seated in the rear slots 1 and 5 re spectively, I provide two out out lugs 12, 13 to position the hind legs 10 in the slots as will. be hereafter. more particularly explained. On the front leg section 11 I provide a seat 1% cut in the lower edge of the section 11 and a lip adjacent the seat 14%. The device is mounted on traction wheels 16, connected by an axle provided with cranks 18, 19.
The horses are mounted on the platform by inserting the lug 13 in the enlarged apertures 5 respectively of rear slots 4 and 5 and then sliding them rearwardly with the lug 12 above the platform 1 and the lug 13 below the platform 1, thus forming a sliding connection between the horse and the platform.
The front leg sections 11 are then inserted in the forward slots 2 and 3 respectively and the cranks 18, 19 respectively of the axle 20 are engaged by the seats 14. The lip 15 is then bent over under the axle 20 and across the seat 14 and pinched thereon, thus securely but loosely holding the axle 20 in it seat.
FIGURE WHEEL TOY.
1924. Serial No. 729,059
The device being thus assembled, the traction wheels will be rotated by pushing the device along the floor or other surface, thereby rotating the axle and its integral cranks. The cranks engaging the forward leg sections of the horses will cause them to slide forward and backward and at the same time the forward ends of the horses will rise and fall giving the appearance of race horses in action.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a sheet material toy, a platform, a slot in said platform, a blank representing a figure and having an extension which stands perpendicularly thru said slot, lugs bent from said extension, said lugs lying respectively above and below said platform to secure the blank and platform in sliding connection.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a platform, a slot in the platform and having an enlar 'ed aperture, a member mounted on the platform and hav .ing a section extending through the platform, alug on the said section adapted to pass through the said aperture and below the platform to position the member.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a platform, slots in the platform, a member mounted on the platform and having two sections extending through the platform, lugs on one of the said sections adapted to position the said member on the platform and to permit sliding action between the said member and the platform, a seat in the other of the said sections, an axle in the said seat anda lip integral with the member and adapted to be bent over to hold the axle in the seat.
4. In a device of the character described, the combination of an axle, traction wheels thereon, a platform, a member movably mounted on the platform and having a sec tion extending through the platform, a seat in said member adapted to receive the axle and a lip adjacent the seat to be bent over parallel to said member to secure the axle in the said seat.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this 24 day of June, 1924.
