;M.GARcm FINE GOLD SAVING DEVICE Filed Oct. 26, 1925 Patented Jul fiyl gzes l AN Tomo'rnGARcIA; ons'rooxroiv, CALJIEOBNIALQ I 7 rrnn-eonn sevnve DE ICE;
Application filed October as, 7 925. I Serial No. 64,191."
This invention relates to improvements in hydrauliemining apparatus, and'part1cularly to a device for savingfine gold and other precious'metals from black sand and similar fine materials. 7 y i v Sand of this kind is found in 'large quantities in various sections of this State and frequently contains a goodly quantity of free I gold. Some ofthis gold is in the form. of particles, of appreciable size, which maybe reclaimed from a the sand by ordinary Wash- 7 in'g'jniethods. By far the greater :percentp age of the gold in the sand-however is'ini the form offparticles of almost minutesiz'e; which heretofore the operators have been unable to segregate from'thesand in acom- .inercially practicable and economicalf'man nerl, h i V The principalobject :of my invention therefore is to provide a device for treating sand of thi'scharacter' in such a manner that I may save the greater portion, if not all, of i the goldin the sand in a cheap, rapid and 'efficient manner.- The present structure also represents an: improvement over a portion.
of thestructure shown in nay-Patent No.
1,544,272, dated September 2 2nd,-1925."
A further object of, the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and ,yetone which willbe exceedingly effective forthe purpose for which it is designed.
These objects Iaccomplish by means-of;
such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by aperusal of the following specification and claims In the drawingssimilar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views; a r I o p F 1g. 1 1s a s1de elevation'of the dev ce.
I QFig. 2'is a sectional elevation of the same.
Referring nowumore particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the
numeral 1 denotes a sluiceway preferably elevated from the ground somewhat and supported at a suitable height by a trestle-work 2 or the like; vThis'slui'ce is set at a down-7' ward slant so that water will flow, fr eely fromits upper to its lower end; Associated with the sluiceway at theupper end thereof: is a feed structure (not shown) which preferably of the same j character as that "shown in the above mentioned patent. The
lower endof the sluicewayf discharges into a two-compartment hopper 3, also asshown in said patent.
Aqcertain distance from its upper end. the
upwardly and forwardly to a bottom of. slllie i formed as -a .;I'emova therethrough; I Beyond the screen thebottom of the sluice has transverse rifiles 5 of ordinary character to catch any gold present in the coarse gravel or sand passing down the sluice andof asize incapable of passing" through the screen 4.
Mounted under the sluice and'ha ving water tight connection therewith is a receptacle ble screen 4 having 'amesh of suificientfine V .ness to only permit ofblack sand passing 6. This receptacle commences adjacentthe upper end of the screen 4 and extends downwardly'a certain distance itherebeyond'. The
bottom of the receptacleis preferably paral lel tothe bottom of the sluice andit's lower end is formed as a curved portion sloping the'bottom of the sluice:
junctionywith 1 Mounted in the receptacle 6 on g 7 disposed just-under'the'fioor of the sluice beyondf the" screen? 4 are vertically spaced" screens '8 of; veryffine' mesh which extend from the bottom" end of, the screen '4 to a forthe purposeof enablinganydepositfof gold thereonto "be readily removed j Said screens are preferably; removablefifrom one side of the receptacle "and in order to pre vent unauthorized, removal of the same, the
point adjacent the lower end of the recep tacle. These screens areslidably mounted in 7 place and are removable from the receptacle screen frames are provided with 'orificed lugs I 9 on their outer faces to cooperate with a means may be attached to thelugs and plate to maintain the screens'locked a-gainstre- :moval. I 1
A valved dr'ain outlet 11 is provided in the side of the receptacle adjacent the bottom and-lower end-thereof "so" as 'toienable the water to be 'drawnjoff' when desired.
Thebottom of the sluicej fromthe-lower end of the'sc'reen' 4 to the; lower end-of the" receptaclejis preferably made in the form of r a removable plateas vshown at 12; This-en ables sand to be shoveledout from the receptacle from above after the screens 8 have collected the'gold in thessand and have been removed,
In operation the the upper end of the sluice in conjunction with a certain amount "of water; The coarse 7 material from which the gold is to be extracted, including coarse sand, gravel and black'zsand, is fed onto similarly orificed plate 10 on the'sideofthe receptacle so th'atapadlock'jorother locking i ir oilgh' the screens is" depos materiel down the sluiee 7 Q the hop- 1yeoa1se gold belm euught by the rifiles 51" J I V Am fine black sand, and of course fine part idhes of gold, ififieimingled thefewith together with some either Water, p ess down thl'ougl'l'the screen 4 into the-reeefia 'ile 6 and 'tend to move powwd the lower end, thereof.
