' Application filed May 13, 1924. serial in; 713,084.
This invention relates to plowsand its object is the provision of a plow attachment .which'is adapted to be utilized for removing root's, sage-brush, or the like from ground.
Which is broken by the plow.
- More specific objects and advantages of the invention will appe'ar in'the following devices embodying description.
The invention consists in the novel con- "struction, adaptation :and combination of at 27, Fig.2. 7 p
These teeth'are removablysecured to said 1 parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying. drawingsf 1 Figure 1 is a side elevation of a plow with my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a plan view of Fig.1; Fig. 3 is a detail. sectional view taken substantially" on line 33 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4
- -is'a detail sectional view on lines 44: of
board 9 which may be of Figs. 1 and 2.
dles '6, a beam 7, a'share 8 and moldsuitable form or construction.
' According to the present invention, at the ofl' side of the plow beam 7 there is em ployed a bar 10, hereinafterdesignated as the frame, which is formed or bent as at 11 and 12 to provide atransversely-arranged portion 13 intermediate rearwardly extend ing arm element 14 of the frame.
' .-The shank j- 15 of said frame extends through a bearing box 16 whichis secured to the plow beam 7 as by means of bolts '17 and 18 passing throughlselected holes, as at 17 and 18 fof flange elements 19 of the box and a companion plate 20 disposed at the opposite side of the beam from said box. The holes17 and 18 above mentioned are disposed preferably along arcs of circles as shown in Fig. 1 so as to most advantageously with respect to' the beam.
accommodate the bolts when changing-the longitudinal vertical angle 'of the frame As shown, the frame '10 issecured against longitudinal displacement to said box by means of set collars 21 provided on' the against opposite endsof the box. I
In said drawing, the reference numeral 5 1 represents, generally, 'a plow having hanan known or and shank 15 element j Itis necessary sometimes to rock the frame about the plow beamon' a longitudinal axis and: to accomplish the same I provide a 'set'f screw 22 extending into 3 said-'boxto' engage p the frame shank. r i 23, represents'a -disk .or spider having a rimelement 2 1 and a hub element 25 which 7 a are apertured to receive a plurality of ra-,
dially disposed rods orteeth elements 26 whose outer ends are preferably curved as spider asby;me 'ans of set screws 28.- The "combined spider and rodslconstitute a wheel which is rotatably'mounted on the spindle element 29 of'a stub axle 30, between a fixed collar 31 'of-the latterv and a set collar 32 which is secured tothe spindle element 29.
14;:"and to which the. axle is secured by clamping the 'axle'jto the instrumentality of a screw the bifurcations 34 of .the'axle. 35 represents a set screw acting supplementary to the bolt 33 for securing the axle to said arm. As shown in Fig.2, the end of the arm 14 is curved as at '36 thereby enabling the angle of the wheel to'be changed bysuitablyshifting the axle lengthwiseof the arm.'-
'Said axle is bifurcated to embrace the arm arm through the bolt 33 engaging f 23 with-respect to .the' plow .For use,"the device. is adjusted to have? the toothed wheel disposed to one side of I board to otherwise-the wheel is caused to rotate,
"the plowibeam andin front; of the mold-fe enable the wheel to operate inthefurrow next tothat in which the plow is: breaking ground. l The wheel, furthermore,
whereupon the revolving teeth, serve to ex-:
tract fragments of roots, brush, etcl, and
deliver the sameover a plowed trenchiafter the latter has been filledwith soil through the instrumentality of the mold-board of the plow. I V What ;I claim, is, The combination with a shank element and an armelementdispo-sed plomof a frame: f consisting of, a bar formed to provide a i in substantially parallel relation with each other, one end of said arm being curved, =a Wheelprovided with a pluralityrof ra-. diatin'g teeth elements, an axle for said Wheel, said axle being mounted upon the curved end of said frame arm, means for' v seourmg sald axle 1n ad usted p0s1tions upon 7 said arm, a bearing 'box for the shank ele- Signed atSeattIe, Washington, this 9th w day of April, 1924. a
