This invention relates to governor control mechanisms, and 1s,
governor as adapted to gas engines. The control mechanisms nowemployed 1n connection with the hit-and-miss 'type gova hit-and-miss, balanced, two-weight type siredto adjust or enablea quick change of reach over or around the fly-wheelito unlock a locking device whichholds a governor" With this arrangement adjustment set. v many a ccidents have occurred and n several cases the operators of these gas engines have lost their hands while attempting to change the adjustment of these governors or i to release the locking device so that the speed that may be regulated while the engine is inof the gas engine-might be varied; Because of thesenumerous accidents, the Government'now requires that the gas engines be enclosed in a cage, and that the-engine be stoppedbefore any regulation of the gov-- ernor may be. effected or' thelocking device released so that the speed of'the gas engine may be changed. It is obviously disadvantageous to try to regulate the speed.
. ofthese gas engines when the same are idle. Therefore, an object of this nvention 1s to provide a governor control mechanism motion from a point distant thereto.
An object of this inventionmay' be to provide a'means of control of a hit-and-miss governor which'is effectively and "easily operated at a point d st'antjfrom a gas enme. g A further object of thisinvention is to provide a means of setting and locking the adjustment of these 'hit-and-mlss governors at a point distant from the gas engine.
Other objectsand advantages willbe ap-,
tion, partlyin section, of a governor control mechanism embodying this invention.

pick 'lever- 11 is which arm 12 is pivoted to the case supportpreferably tion,'of agovernor control mechanism emv bodying this'invention, taken from the oppo- I site side of Figure 2., v V a Fig.- 4 is'a'section'al viewtaken substantially on the'line 4-4 of Figure 3. i
A gasengine is diagrammatically illustrated at 1, having a fly wheel 2 adapted to 5, to 1 which gear 5 connected in a manner well known in thedrive a hit-and-miss type governor 3, by
means of a gear 4, wh ch gear-4e meshes with v a governor'zgear 05 a pair of balanced weightsfi are pivoted and 7 art so that with an increase in speed of the fly-wheel 2 the weights 6'are thrown out-V warda gainst the tension of a spring 7; A governor'actuating cam 8 is. adapted to slide radially outward ina groove 9in the gear 5 when the balanced weights, 6'arethrown radially from thecenter by an increased rate of speed of the fly wheel 2. The cam member 8 is adapted to engage a pick lever roller 10, which pick lever roller '10 is jour naledon a suitable pin '10,which pin 10 is secured to one .end of a pick lever 1l. The
pivoted to a pivoted arm 12,
ing the. connecting rod 17 as illustrated in Fig. 3 and when the cam'member 8 strikes the pick lever-roller 10,.the-end of the pick lever :11 1s thrown upwardfina manner "to. cause the end'1 3 to'be thrust downward to engage anabutment 1 4 insuch a manneras to hold the'exhaust valve 15 open so. that the. gas engine 1 will not draw an explosive,
charge of mixture into the cylinder and willfail to fire.
V 7 This operation is well understood inthe art and it is not deemed'neces- 7 sary to further describe this action, as this invention relates toameans for adjusting the position of the roller pinin relation to the cam member 8; it being, of course, understood that the cam-16 operates toopen the exhaust 15 through asuitable connect- 'ing rod 317, and that a suitable pressure member 29 acts toreleasethe pick lever '11 from engagement with the abutment 14 when the cam member 8 fails to engage the pick lever roller 10 due to the engine slow ing down.
The positionof the pick lever roller 10 is. regulated in relation to the cam 8 by the following means: 7 f
An actuating arm 18 pivotally supported as illustrated at 21 is provided with an arcuate slot'l9 at its lower end, in which slot 19 a pin is adapted to ride, and which pin 20 is secured to the upper end of the arm 12. The lowest point ofthe slot 19' is at the end of the slotnearest the pivot point of the arm 12 so that as the slot 19 is rotated in one direction, the end of the arm 12 carrying the pin 20 is raised and when the slot 19 is rotated: in the opposite direction the same end of the arm 12 is lowered.
on a pin 10" is by this means raised; or lowered so that the cam members strikes the roller 10iat intervals depending on the position of the roller 10 lates the speed of the engine '1. Near the upper end of the arm 18 a rod 22' is pivoted as illustrated at 528, and which arm' 22 extends outward from the engine 1 and'is adapted to slide'in a bracket 23,
7 It will be obvious that by moving the rod 22, o the height of the pick lever roller 10 will be varied'so that the speed otthe gas 7 front of the engine 1, thereby speed of the gas engine .gas engine 1 is actuating engine may be regulated. 1
In order to provide a permanent adjust ment of speed, I prefer to provide a locl-:- ing means, as illustrated at 2 1, to holdthe rgd 22 in permanent set position when the which locking means is illustrated as comprlsing a screw clamp 27 and a hand screw 28.
It is often "desirable, especially in .the
case where these gas engines are used in connection with oil well equipment, to have a connection whereby the speed of the engine may be quickly varied at a point distant to the'en'gine, For this purpose I prefer to provide a cable 25, one end of which may be extended into the oil well rig, and the other end of which may be provided with a suitable weight 26, the weight haust valve,
The roller 10 being mounted on, the lever 11 which is'pivoted tothe arm 12 and thereby regu a well pump,
my invention is for the scope of the appended claims. v
