The invention relates to fiber containers and to a method of making the same.
The object of the invention is to provide a container closure in which the head is firmly secured to the siding by its connection with the siding and a metal reinforcing and clamping band secured to the siding adjacent the head.
The invention vfurther consists in the several features hereinafter set forth and more particularly defined by claims at the conclusion hereof.
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a detail sectional view of the container parts in position before attaching the metal band;

The, subject-matter of the invention may be used to attach a head to either the siding forming the body or the cover of a container, and has been shown in connection with the body of the container. i The siding of fiber tubing, such as pressed pulp or tubes wound from paper or fiber sheets preferably comprises two tubes 4 and 5, dsecured together except at their bottom en s.
The head is of fiber having a laminated cylindrical disk portion 6 secured to a dished portion 7 of one or moreber sheet laminations, and the flange 8 of the portion 7 is inserted between the tubes 4 and 5 at their bottom ends and secured thereto in any suitable manner, as by adhesive, with' the end of the tube 4 projecting beyond the disk portion 6.
With the parts thus combined the siding,
with the head. is firmly `held between an internal expanding chuck 9, an external contracting chuck 10 and a cylindrical clamping plunger 11, as shown infFig. 1, the plunger 9 being of less diameter than. the head and forming with the chuck 10 a space 9.
A band 12 of thin sheet steel, or other suitable sheet metal, having an outwardly extending base {iange 13 and a slightly curved upper end 14, is placed within the siding and against the head before the 4plunger 9 is moved tothe position shown in Fig. 1.
The inner face 15 of the chuck 10 above the head is recessed and has a curved bottom portion 16.
A forming plunger 17 has an annular part 18 working between the chuck 10 and the plunger 11 and is provided with a curved edge 19.
'Vith the parts in position, as yshown in Fig. 1, the plunger 17 1s moved downwardly to the position shown in Fig. 2, whereby the extended end portion 2O of the tube is bent over against the plunger 13 of the band and the upper edge. of the tube is pressed around, with the free end of the band 11, into a oonvolute Wear-resisting reinforced bottom edge for the container, and at the same time the head is firmly clamped in place against outward displacement relativeto the siding. Furthermore, the edge 22 pli tie inner tube 5 forms a support for the I desire it to be understood that this invention is not to be limited to the specific disclosure except in so far as such limitations are included in the claims.
What l claim as my invention is 1. A reinforced fiber container comprisl' ing siding, a head tting within said siding a metal reinforcing and head-securing band having a base ring portion abutting the head and a convolute portion, a part of said siding extending beyond the head and bent over the head against the base portion of said band with its free end clamped between the convolute portion of said band. v
2. A reinforced fiber container compris ing a pair of fiber tubes forming the siding, a head abutting against the end of the inner tube, the outer tube receiving the head within it and having an extension projecting inwardly over the head, and a reinforcing Vmetal band having al baseportion abutting la head abutting against the end of the inner tube and having a ianged portion secured between the inner and outer tubes, the outerv tube extending over and )beyond the head,
and a metal band having a part engaging the head and a convolute portion engaging the extended end portion of said outer tube.
4. A reinforced ber container compris- 5 in a pair of fiber tubes forming the siding, a ead abutting against the end of the inner tube and having a anged portion secured between the inner and outer tubes, the outer tube having an extension projecting inwardly over said head, and a reinforcing 10 metal band having a base portion abutting the outside of the head and a part clamped to and over said extension and forming a beaded edge.
