SEBASTIAN O. ADAMS, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN MAP-EXHIBIITORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,058, dated January 26, 1875; application filed September 19, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SEBASTIAN O. An Ms, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chart-Frame, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a front view of my improved chart-frame, showing a chart applied to it. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents the chart to be exhibited, the ends of which are attached to two rollers, B, so that it can be wound from one to the other of the rollers by turning them by means of cranks 0, attached to their ends. The journals of the rollers B revolve in spring clips or brackets D, attached to the ends of the bars E, and which press against the ends of the rollers B, and thus hold said rollers in any position into which they may be turned, and also keep the chart A taut while being wound from one to the other of said rollers B. The bars E are halved to the two cross-bars F, and are secured detachably to said bars by screws, so that they can readilybe detached and packed into a compact bundle for storage or transportation. The bars F are placed at such a distance from the ends of the bars E as to be covered and concealed by the chart A, the bars E being concealed by the chart A and rollers B, the entire frame E F being thus out of sight. To the upper bar F are attached screw hooks or eyes G, to receive screws, nails, or hooks attached to the wall, for suspending the frame and chart upon said wall, where they are held steady by screws or nails passing through holes in the lower cross-bar F and into the wall. The bars E should be of a length about equal to the length of the rollers B, and the bars F of such a length as to bring the rollers B at such a distance apart as will display the desired amount of the chart A at a time, or as the space where the chart is to be displayed will allow. Upon the lower ends of the rollers B are formed flanges or wheels H, upon which the lower edge of the chart A may rest to prevent it from slipping down upon said rollers.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with rollers B. of the frame D E F, having detachably-connected bars E, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
