MAGAZINE SHAVING BRUSH.
Application filed July 28, 1925. Serial No. 46,562.
' My invention relates to shaving brushes, and. has for its object toprovide a new'and useful reservoir brush of this character, and having simple and efficient means for filling the reservoir (without detaching any of the assembled parts) with a plastic lather preparation used for shaving. Also a simple and efiicient means for forcing the lather. preparation to the center of the brush as needed. Other objects are to provide a reservoir brush in which the several parts are easily separable and renewable, any one 'or more parts being replaced as they are worn out, or broken; and to provide a transparent reservoir so the amount of lather preparation contained therein can be ascertained at a lance.
y invention will be more readily understood from the following specification and drawings, of which:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the brush.
Figure 2 is a view showin the method of attaching an ordinary shaving cream tube for refilling thereservoir. p
the pistonwith pack- Figure 3 is aview of ing'ring in place.
Figure 4 is a view of the rubber packing ring before placing on piston.
Referrin to the accompanying drawings, numeral 1 designates a tubular brush handle, which is preferably made of transparent material such as celluloid, and forms the reservoir 2 for holding the shaving cream or other plastic lather preparation. The tube or cylinder 1 is threaded as at 3 to receive the bushing 4 which may be made of hard rubber, or any other suitable material. A P
. washer 5 is interposed between cylinder 3 and bushingto make an air tight joint for the purpose that will be described later.
The brush head 6 is surrounded by the ferrule 7 and passing through said brush head is the metal tube 8 which is secured to a head 9. The tube 8 and head 9 being glued to the brush'head 6. The brush head 6 and attached parts 7, 8 and 9 have a friction fit in bushing 4. Theouter end of the tube 8, which extends into the brush 10, is drawn to a point and threaded as at 11, to receive the tube 12 as will be described later.
The cylinder 1 is threaded at-its other end as at 15 to receive the cap 16, which is provided with the axially disposed bearing 17 for one end of a preferably left hand threaded shaft 18, which. shaft is extended as at 19 receive'the knurled head 20; the shaft 18 is also provided with the thrust collar 21, wh ch bears against the cap 16. \Vithin the cyllnder 1 is a piston or follower 25, which is axially threaded to receive the shaft 18, and having a peripheral groove to receive the rubber packing ring 26, which engages the walls of cylinder 1. As it is essential to have a tight fitting packing ring, I have designed the piston to be easily and quicklyfitted with a new packing ring when same is needed. The rubber packing ring 26 is cut smaller in diameter than the groove in the piston 25 and consequently when the packing ring is stretched when placed inthe groove a tight fit is assured between the v In use the plastic lather preparation. is placed w1th1n the handle portion, or reservoir, 2 by placing'the tip of the collapsible tube 12, which ordinarily contains the lather preparation over the threaded end 11 of the tube 8, and turning thetube 12 with a slight pressure forward.
The threads 11 will tap the soft metal of the tube 12 and thread the tube 8 into the tip making a tight fit between the tubes 12 and 8. v
The iston 25 which should be at its extreme orward position as at 30 in Fig. 2, is then moved toward the upper end of the cylinder 1 by turning the knurled head 20 in the left hand direction.
artial vacuum within the bushing 2 and tube 8 and the shaving cream will then flow through thetube 8 into the bushing 4 and reservoir 2 as the piston travels upward. The washer 5 insures an air tight fit between the cylinder 1 and bushing 4. The cap 16 is provided with a vent 28 to allow the egress and ingress of air as the piston travels one tachthe tube 12. When it is desired to pro-.
duce a lather with the brush the knurled head 20 is turned slightly 'to the right, which causes the piston 25 to travel downward and This creates a force shaving cream through the tube 8 into the brush; the brush is then Wetted and lather provided in the usual Way.
It is obvious from this that by virtue of the detachable parts as described, any part may be replaced if Worn out or broken, and this brush and parts may be sold with that oint in view. V
lVhile I have described and shown my invention in its preferred form, I desire to have it understood that such changes may be made in form, arrangement o1 parts, and
construction as will not depart from the,
spirit of my invention.
