rowan PUMP.
Application filed April 23 This invention relates to improvements in power pumps. The main objects of this invention are: First, to provide an improved electric motor driven power pump which is well adapted for use in residences for pumping cistern water compact and simple in structure, and not likely to get out of repair.
Second, to provide an improved power 1 pump having these advantages in which a motor of small horse power may be employed and at the same time considerable pressures maintained.
Qbjects pertaining to details and economies of construction and {operation will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification; The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a plan view of my improved power pump the discharge or outlet pipe being shown in section.
F ig. II is afront elevation of my im- 30 proved pump the outlet pipe being broken away.
Fig. III is a detail vertical section on a line corresponding to line 33 of Fig. I.
Fig. IV is a detail view partially in horizontal section on a line corresponding to line 44 of Fig. III.
Fig. V is a detail view'partially in horizontal section on a line corresponding to line 55 of Fig. VI showing details of the pump.
Fig. VI is a detail view mainly in vertical section on a line corresponding to line 66 of Figs. V and VII.
Fig. VII is a detail transverse section on a line corresponding to line 77 of Figs. V and VI.
In the drawing the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines and similar numerals of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing, the supporting base 1 is of such dimension and character as to permit the mountlng of the pump proper and motor and the motor control mechanism Serial No. 633,980.
thereon. This base is, in practice, mounted on a castlng.
The motor 2 is shown conventionally as is also the pressure controlled switch 3. As the structural details of this pressure control switch form no part of the invention they are not illustrated herein.
The pump cylinder 4 is provided with a plugalike'head 5 at its outer end and a head 6. at its inner end formed as a part of the yoke 7 supported by the pedestal orbracket 8. The piston 9 is of the double acting type, the cylinder being provided with an inlet chamber 10 connected to the cylinder by the passages 11 which constitute both inlet and discharge passages, the valves 13 controlling the inlet ports 15 and the valves 16 controlling the outlet ports 17. These ports 17 communicate with the pressure dome 18, the outlet pipe 19 being connected at the bottom thereof. The pressure controlled switch is connected by the pipe 20 to this pressure dome.
I provide a cylindrical gear box 21 having a removable side plate 22. This gear box has a tubular cross head extension 23 formed integral therewith, the outer end of the cross .head extension being closed by means of the head 24 on the yoke 7. The gear box has a segmental enlargement 25 constituting a continuation for the rear wall of the cross head extension 23. Within the gear box is a large gear 26 having journals 27 with a bearing 28 in the rear wall of the gear box and a bearing 29 in the removable side plate 22. On the rear side of the gear 26 is an eccentric 30.
The tubular cross head 31 has a closed outer end 32 into which the piston rod 33 is threaded, a lock nut 34 being provided. The pitman 35 projects into the tubular cross head and is connected thereto by the pin 36. This pitman has an eccentric strap 37 coacting with the eccentric 30.
The driving shaft 38 of the motor has bearings 39 and 40 in the gear box and cover plate respectively, and is provided with a pinion 41 meshing with the gear 26, there being a slight enlargement 42 to accommo date the bearings for the shaft.
The gear box is provided with an oil hole at the top normally closed as by the block 43 and with a drain cock 44.
lVith this arrangement of parts I provid a structure which is very compact. The
gear box may be supplied with lubricant which also lubricates the cross head, the lubricant beiii'g efi ectively retained. 11 motor of small horse power may be used effectively, even Where considerable pressures are desired. Further, the parts are all conveniently accessible.
Having thus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1-. in a st-iaictu're the class described the combination of a cylindrical ear box provided 'i i th a removable side p-* ate and lraviiw t t'nbul-a'r cross head "ez'itension integral th 'eivitli, the even "of said "gear box having a segh ental enlargement constitutina cont'ii an eccentric strap coacting with said eccentri'c on said gear, and a driving shaft having bearings in said gear box and and provided with a pinion meshing with said gear.
2. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a gear box provided with a removable side plate and having a tubular cross head extension integral therewith, a cross head reciprocating in said extension, a gear disposed in said gear box and having bearings in the gear box Wall and said removable si' e plate thereof, said gear having an eccentric "on one side theme-t a pi'tman disposed at the sideof said gear and connected to said cross h'ead having an eccentric strap coastin with said eccentric on said gear, and a driving sha ft having bearin's in said gear box and gear bOX cover a 6 provided 'w'vl t'h a pinion meshing with In Witness 'ivhereof, I have hereunte set my hand.
