Description
Patented June 29, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OF F l C E SPINNING FLIER.
Application filed. January 11, 1926. Serial No. 80,647.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in fliers for spinning machines and the like.
An object of the invention is to provide a flier which is simple and durable in construction as well as eflicient in operation.
A further object is to provide a flier of the above kind wherein provision is made for permitting quick attachment or removal of the flier wires.
Another object of the invention is. to provide a flier having provision for. bracing and steadying the flier wires to ensure proper and uniform tension.
Other objects will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, and the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing, wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Figure l is an inverted perspective view of a flier constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof partly in section;
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section taken substantially upon line 33 of Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the flier wires or arms.
Referring more in detail to the drawing,
' the present invention embodies an elongated plate or cross bar 5, having an enlarged central portion 6 formed with a central trans verse opening as at 7 for reception of the bobbin spindle or the like, whereby attachment of the cross bar or elongated plate 5 to the spindle for rotation with the latter may be facilitated. The plate or cross bar 5 is of rigid form so that when the same is attached to the spindle a pair of oppositely extending horizontal arms are provided thereby.
A flier wire or arm 8 of angular form is detachably connected to each arm or end portion of the crossbar 5. For this purpose, the flier wires are disposed with their upper horizontal end portions resting upon the ends of the cross bar 5 and disposed longitudinally of the latter, while screws 9 are passed through eyeslO provided at the inner ends of the flier wires or arms and threaded into openings provided in the cross bar 5 at opposite sides of the spindle opening 7. In order to prevent swinging of the flier wires about the screws 9 relative to the cross bar 5, the vertical depending arms of said flier wires pass downwardly through openings in the ends of the cross bar which are preferably in the form of longitudinally extending slots 11 from which the flier wires may be readily removed. The eyes 10 for facilitating attachment of the flier wires to the cross bar are preferably formed by suitably bending the inner ends of the flier wires, and the usual thread-engaging wires 12 are similarly formed on the outer ends of the flier wires.
In order to effect removal of a flier wire, it is simply necessary to remove its attaching screw 9 and then slide the flier Wire outwardly to dis-engage its vertical depending arm or portion from the associated slot.
11. A reversal of this operation is necessary to effect attachment of a flier wire, as is obvious, and it will be seen that by reason of the fact that the flier wires are restrained against lateral swinging at the point of juncture of the horizontal and vertical arms thereof by engagement in the slots 11, the flier wires will be effectively braced and steadied so that a durable and efficient structure is had.
From the foregoing description it is believed that the construction and operation as well as the advantages of the present invention will be readily understood and appreciated by those skilled in the art.
\Vhat I claim as new is 1. A flier of the character described comprising a cross bar adapted to be mounted on a driving spindle, and an angular flier wire detachably connected to each end of the cross bar with its vertical dependent outer end portion engaged with the adjacent outer end of the cross bar so as to restrain the flier wire from swinging laterally relative to the cross bar.
2. A spinning flier comprising a cross bar provided with a central opening for reception of a driving spindle and having end openings, and flier wires including inner horizontal arms disposed on the ends of the cross bar and secured at their inner ends to the latter and outer depending vertical arms passing through the end openings of the cross bar.
3. A spinning flier comprising a cross bar provided with a central opening for reception of a driving spindle and having end openings, and flier wires including inner horizontal arms disposed on the ends of the cross bar and secured at their inner ends to the latter and outer depending vertical arms passing through the end openings of the cross bar, the attachment of the inner ends of the flier wires to the cross bar constituting a detachable connection and said flier wires being removable from the end openings of the cross bar.
4. A spinning flier comprising a cross bar provided with a central opening for reception of a driving spindle and having end openings, and flier wires including inner horizontal arms disposed on the ends of the cross bar and secured at their inner ends to the latter and outer depending vertical arms passing through the end openings of the cross bar, the connection of the inner ends of the flier wires with the cross bar being of a detachable nature, and said end openings of the cross bar embodying slots from which the flier wires are laterally removable.
5. A. spinning flier comprising a cross bar having a central opening for reception of a driving spindle, longitudinal slots being provided in the ends of the cross bar at their outer ends, angular flier wires disposed with their inner portions resting upon the ends of the cross bar and with their outer portions depending through said slots, and means engaging the inner ends of the flier wires for detachably securing the latter to the cross bar.
6. 'A spinning flier comprising a cross bar having a central opening for reception of a driving spindle, longitudinal slots being provided in the ends of the cross bar at their outer ends, angular flier wires disposed with their inner portions resting, upon the ends of the cross bar and with their outer portions depending through said slots, and means engaging the inner ends of the flier wires for detachably securing the latter to the cross bar, said last named means comprising eyes upon the inner ends of the flier wires and screws passing through said eyes and threaded into the cross bar at opposite sides of the spindle receiving opening.
7. A spinning flier comprising a cross bar and flier wires detachably secured to the ends of the cross bar with their inner end portions resting upon and disposed longitudinally of the cross bar, and means on the ends of the cross bar engaging the intermediate portions of the flier wires to restrain the latter against lateral displacement relative to the cross bar.
8. A spinning flier comprising a cross bar, flier wires detachably secured to the ends of the cross bar with their inner end portions resting upon and disposed longitudinally of the cross bar, saidflier wires comprising integrally connected arms extending at right angles to eachother, and means engaging the intermediate portions of the flier wires at the junctures of said arms of the latter to restrain the flier wires against lateral displacement relative to the cross bar. t
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
