This invention relates to a method of washing clothing and an apparatus for carrying out the invention.
It is the principal object of the present invention to provide an improved method and apparatus for washing clothing which employs air under high velocity as a medium for assisting the washing fluid in cleansing the clothing.
In carrying out this object, air under high velocity is introduced tangentially into a 1 substantially cylindrical tub containing the clothing and a cleansing medium. The air causes the contents of the tub to very rapidly revolve around thetub and causes considerable agitation of the clothing. It also separates the different articles of clothing so that they will be'thoroughly subjected to the action of the cleansing fluid. I have found in actual practice that such agitation is sutlicient to thoroughly cleanse clothing in a comparatively short period as the air passes through the clothing loosening the dirt which is removed by the agitation of the clothing and cleansing fluid.
The apparatus for carrying out the method is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture in comparison with prior washing machines. Also, by using air a minimum amount of power is required to operate the machine.
I am aware that prior to my invention, water under pressure was employedas agitating means in washing machines by introducing it tangentially into the tub of the machine and causing it to cooperate with a rubbing surface to cleanse the contents of the tub. This method required a circulating pump of large capacity and requiring considerable power. Also, the Water could not be practically introduced into the tank at a velocity great enough to cleanse the clothing without the cooperation of a rubbing surface.
. In eliminating this latter I have reduced the cost of manufacturing the machines. Also by the use of air a more satisfactory washing action is obtained in addition to the fact that less operating power is required and a simpier and less expensive machine rovided;
The present invention is exempli ed in the following description and the apparatus is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawings, in which I have shown the preferred form of my apparatus, 10 indicates a substantially cylindrical tank having a hinged door 11 into which the cleaning medium and clothes may be introduced into the tank 10.
Supported at the top of the tank is an air blower 12 which is operated by an electric motor 14. The discharge port of the air blower is fitted with a nozzle 15 which is outwardly flared at its lower end. This end opens into the tank 10 at the bottom of the I is heated and therefore will not act to coolthe1 contents of the tank upon the second cvc c.
In actual practice I have found that by so introducing the air into the tank, it causes the difi'erent articles of clothing therein to separate and to be very thoroughly agitated, thereby exposing every portion of the clothing to the action of the cleansing medium in the tank. I have also found that it requires but a minimum power to operate the blower,
and that the device is therefore very economical.
It is manifest from the drawings and the description that the device is very simple in construction and inexpensive to manufac ture when compared with the devices now used for this purpose.
lVhile I have shown the preferred form of the invention, it will be understood that various changes in the combination, construction and arrangement of parts may be made, without departing from the spirit or" the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat cut is:
1.
