Description

G. N. HEIN POSITIVE BLOOD LETTING HYPODERMIC SYRINGE Fjgl Patented June 22, 1926.
UNITE SNTE Application filed February i3, E925.
This invention relates to hypoderniic i; inges, and has for its objects to provide a syringe construction wherein a positive withdrawal or blood troni the body ol" 'the user is capable ot being made; to insure the proper location of the needle point by a simple entr-.fard movement ot the syrlnggje piston; to provide a const-rn on wherein two valve contr lled passages provided between the interior of the barrel and one end oit the needle, one oi w'ii "i controlled by an autom atie or checl: valve and the other ot which is controlled by a positively operated valve. A further object is t i a structure ot the previously desc e which is capable or operation is a syringe olf the continuons pump type. ln addition tion contains novel structure in the Jr'orm of the type of combined piston pacl'ing and check valve associated with the piston.
lllith the above mentioned and other objects in view, the iiwention consists in the novel construction and combination parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying dr wings, and set forth in the claims hereto appended, it being- Vunderstood that various' changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details ot construction within the scope oi' the claims may be resorted to without departing` from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
To more 'fully comprehend the invention, reference is directed to the accompanying` tli'zm'iiigs, wherein Fig. l is a view in longitudinal central section illustrating the preferred embodiinent of my invention with the blood letting valve raised :trom its seat.
Fig. 2 is a view in detail oi the combined piston packingl and check valve at the inner end ot' the piston.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
ln the drawings, l indicates a conventional syringe barrel open at one end as at 2, and provided at its opposite end with an extension 3 Yformed with a bore L disposed preferably longitndinally o'j the center thereof, and a bore 5 disposed preterably at one side ot the bore il. Removably threaded, as at to the end 3 of the barrel l is a needle base 7 formed with an interior chamber S with which communicates the inner end of a conventional torni ot" hypoto the above mentioned objects', the invernn Serial No. 10,194.
drrniic needle S). (i the bore 5 is the chamber :third Vflow therethrough from vthe 'A 'nl' .r i l to une interior oi the bai-rei l, lcd with a manually operated n in direct coinnnmication with needle 'valve ll), threaded in the bodyv of the l itted over the end of the tubular barrel l. extension or the barrel l an elastic cap ll, ont transversely at .i2 in a line wit: the outer end ot e extension 3 providing a t end of the en ension and control the fluid through the bore di. lt will be obn of theA flap 'i3 will thcreover, the peripheral walls ot which are' adapted to iirictionally engage Vthe inner wall of the barrel chamber, in the drawing'. Fluid iiow tlnfongh the bore 16 in the piston is controlled by a ilexible che-cl; valve 17 formed by sliding' .trie hood l5 inwardly on the line of the end ot the piston le. valve 18 precludes the passage ot duitL in .either direction through the bore 16 ot the piston lll.
is preferable that the syringe and its barrel be constructed oi glass or other transparent material facilitating the sterilizing and cleaning` thereof, and when in use the device operates in the following manner.
lilith the valve 18 closed and the needle valve .l0 in open position, the operator insei-ts the point of the needle 9, and to insure the location ot the needle point within the. blood flow, it is only necessary that the piston 1d be drawn outwardly causing the blood flow inwardly through the bore 5. llfhen the proper location ot the needle point is' assured, the valve l0 is closed, and a reciprocation is imparted to the piston le insuring the intermittent charges of desired Vtluid bein@ injected into the patient.
Having thus described my invention what l claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent ot the United States isc l. n. blood letting hypoderinic syringe including a barrel; a needle base; a hypoder- .nic needle carried thereby, said barrel provided with a main discharge bore, and an auxiliary bore, said main discharge boro provided with a one Way cheek vulve, said auxiliary bore provided with a nninueily opere'ed control valve, said discharge and auxiliary heres opening direetiy into the needle heee; and zi pieten in 'the borrel :adopted i'or the nioveinent in one direction to draw tiuid through the needle into the hin-rei through one oit Suid hores.
