HENRY E. BRUNIZOFF, F CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE BRUNI-"IOFF MANU FACTURING COMPANY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
HUMIDIFIER.
Application led December 5, 1922.
My invention relates to improvements in humidifier apparatus. @ne ot its objects is to pro *ide a hruuidifier, to be mounted for instance in show cases With Cigars, embodying improved means, to mount or support the humidifier in position in the upper' portion et the show case Where it Will most en'iciently charge the atmospheric contents ci" the show-case with moisture. Another object is to provide an improved humidifier adapted to also serve as a means to advertise the goods on display. Another object is to provide an improved humidifier in which the moisture portion and the supporting and advertising portion are separable and interclmngeable. My invention also comprises certain details of form and Com.- bination ot components, all ot which Will be 'i'ully set torth in the description ot the accompanying drawings in which:
`Fig. l, is a perspective view of a portion off show-case with one of my improved humidiiiers mounted therein in position for use.
Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the supporting and advertisingI member ot' my improved humidifier :from the under side, detached.
Fig. 2l, is a perspective view of one type ot moistener member, detached.
Fig. 4, is an enlarged vertical section taken on line ll-d ofi' Fig. l.
is a view similar to Fig, l5 illustrating modification thereof.
YFig. (l, is a view similar to Fig. 27 trating a modification thereof.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the preferred embodiments of my invention, in l `igsl to i of which 16 represents the frame of' a show-case, 1T an opaque or transparent front wall -for the show-case, and 18 a trans.- vparent top plate or top Wall of the showcase. sai d top plate being usually a sheet ot plateeglass supported at its edges upon ledges 19 forming part of the frame 16, with the upper face oit the top plate flush with the upper tace ot the 'frame 16.
Where cigars and certain other articles are to be displayed within the show-case it is import-ant to prevent the goods becoming deficient in moisture contents usually by keeping the atmospheric contents of the show-case charged with moisture given off from a moist body located Within the showcase.
illus- Serial No. 605,057.
In order to suitably mount a moist body within the show-case so as to eti'ectively charge the atmospheric contents ot the showcase with moisture, and at the same time not taire up space available Jfor the goods to be displayed, and not liable to cause injury to the goods on display, I provide a humidifier member comprising preferably a perforated sheet metal cage or she-ll 22 lled with moisture charged sponge or other similar porous moisture absorbing material, 24, and a supporting or mounting membei` to Which the humidifier member is preferably dctachably connected. Since air currents within the show-case are normally produced by differences of temperature therein Whereby wurm air or light Weight air tends to reach the upper portion or' the interior of the show-case and cool air or heavy air tends to reach the lovver portion of the show case, the most eiiicient position or location tor the humidifier will be at or near the top and toward one ot the side walls of the show-case chamber'. This is in order to make use ot the natural atmospheric circulation Within the show-case, and to amplify or increase such natural atmospheric circulation, dueto the evaporation ot Water at the surface of the humiditier and the local retrigerating ei'ect resulting trom such evaporation, which thereby promotes and organizes, systematizes, and controls the direction ot such atmospheric currents so as to insure an ample, uniform and general moisture supply to all of the goods on display in the show-case.
In order to mount the humidifier in an elicient position near the top and preferably near one side Wall of the show-case chamber the mounting member is provided With a 'substantially plane upper tace and with one edge 2G adapted to entend beyond the edge of the humidifier member so as to enter a recess 27 bet-Ween the ledge 19 and the under `face of the top-plate 18 to support 'the mounting member in contact with the under face of the toprplate and with the humidiher depending trom the lower 'Face ot the mounting member.
The humidifier member 22 is preferably provided With flanged edges 30 and 3l to bear against the under face ot the mounting member 25. The edges 32 and 33 of the mounting member 25 are turned down- Wardly and inwardly to form channels 34 to receive the flanged edges 30 and 3l ot lill member Q2 to detacliably attach the humidifier member to the mounting member. Ihe upper hice of the mounting` member is preferably utilized to display advertising matter 35, and due to the mounting meme bers and humidifier members being detaci ably united different mounting members may be employed interchangeably to display different advertising matter as occasion may require.
As illustrated the humidifier member 22 is not detachable from the mounting inemH ber 25 without first detaching the member 25 from its engagement with the show-case; it desired however the; means for detachably engaging the humidifier member to the mounting member may be so modified as to enableythe humidifier member to be detached from the mounting` member without first detaching the mounting member from its position relative to the' show case, as for instance, substantially as shown in Figs. 5 and 6.
In the modication shown in Figs. 5 and (i, the mounting member 40 is supported relatively to the show-case substantially as heretofore described and shown in Figs. I and 4. The member 40 is provided wit' downwardly and inwardly turned flanges 4l and 42 to form channels 43 to receive the flanges 44 and 45 of a humidifier member 46, from one end of the mounting member 40, thus enabling the humidifier member 46 to be detached from thek member 4Q without detacliing` member. 40 'from the show-case. As illustrated in Fig. 5, thev humidifier meniber46 comprises a sheet metal plateV 48v having downwardly turned lugs 49, and a coinposition body of substantially the saine outline as member 22 inoided into shape in a plastic condition and allowed to solidify and be retained in place relative to the plate 48 by means oi? the several lugs 49 embedded in the body 50. The body 50 when solidified is designed to be of a porous nature, such as unglazed pottery for instance, adapted to absorb a considerable quantity of water and to present a large surlface for the subsequent evaporation of the water so absorbed.
The apparatus herein shown and described is capable of considerable iiiodilication without departing from the spirit o? my invention.
What I claim is:
A humidifier comprising` a sheet-metal mounting member having a plane upper face and integral downwardly and iiiwzmdly,v turned edges adapted to form supporting guideways to receive and detachabiy sup port a humidifier member, a relatively wide flange at one side edge oi said mounting member adapted to enter and engage a recess in a show-case to detaehably support the mounting member in contact with the inner `face oi the top ot' the slio\\'-caee, and a huniidilier member provided with a mois ture absorbing member and with iiaiiges to slidingly engage the guideways oi? said mounting member to detachably support said h imidiiier member from and relative to said mounting member.
In testimony whereof I have ai'iixed my signature.
HENRY E. BRUN-HOFF.
