INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented June 15, 1926.
UNITED STATES JOSEPH II. BASSETT, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
DISPLAY DEVICE.
Application filed June 26, 1925.
This invention relates to improvements in display devices and has for an object the provision of a device of this character which is especially adapted for educational purposes, an object being to provide means for supporting indicia containing cards or sheets, such as lesson sheets and positioning them before the student so that the cards or sheets will be substantially at right angles to the line of vision. i
Another object of the invention is the provision of means for supporting the cards or sheets in such manner as to expose the face of one sheet and the back of another sheet, together with means to permit of the removal and replacement of the sheets as desired.
YvVith the above and other objects in View, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the d `awingsz- Figure 1 is an elevation of a display device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an edge view of the same.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sec- 39 tional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding-parts, the device as shown comprises a `frame which includes spaced parallel substantially vertically arranged side bars 10 and upper and lower connecting bars 1l and 12 respectively. The bars 10 rave a slight rearward incline as shown in lligure 2 and the lower bar 12 is secured to a weighted base 13 which is so shaped that its greatest weight will be disposed to the rear of the frame as shown in Figure 2 of the drawings so as to prevent the frame from tilting backward.
The side bars 10 may be formed of a continuous rod or strip, or they may be sectionally formed and their sections connected as indicated at 14. rllhe adjacent portions of the ripper sections of the side bars are formed into loops 15 having spaced upper and lower parallel portions 16 which are designed to extend through openings 17 provided in sheets or cards 18. The upper connecting bar 11 has its opposite ends bev- Serial No. 39,823.
eled while the adjacent ends of the side bars 1() are likewise beveled so as to provide a lapped joint as shown at 19 in Figure 3 of the drawings. A sleeve 2O extends over this lapped joint 19 and is provided with inwardly extending projections 21 which yieldingly engage notches or depressions 22 provided in the adjacent ends of the bars 1() and 11. The bar 11 is thus removably held in place so that the sheets 18 may be removed or replaced as desired.
The sheets 18 are designed to contain suitable indicia. For example, one face of each sheet may contain a peninanship lesson as indicated in Figure 1 of the drawings. These sheets may be numbered, the sheet shown being` indicated as Lesson No. 1 while the sheet immediately below has indicated thereon Instructions lesson No. 1. The instructions are contained on the reverse side of the sheets for the lessons and the sheets are so arranged that the instructions for the lesson will be innuediately below its proper lesson sheet. rlhe arrangement of the loops 16 is such that the upper parallel portions 16 of the loops will support the lesson sheets with the latter resting against the side bars 10 of the frame, while the instruction sheets will be suspended from the lower parallel portions of the loops and the sheets may be conveniently positioned to display any particular lesson.
Vrlhe invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall 'within the scope of the appendedl claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A display device comprising a frame iucluding spaced vertically disposed bars, horizontal connecting bars at the upper and lower'euds of the vertically disposed bars, a base secured to the lower connecting bar,
apertured sheets mounted upon said vertically disposed bars, means included in the last mentioned bars to support said sheets one above the other and means to removably attach the upper horizontal connecting bar to the vertically disposed bars to permit of the application and removal of the sheets.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
JOSEPH H. BASSETT.
