VENTILATOR VALVE FOR VIINDOWS.
Application filed July 30, 1925.
The invention relates to means tor con.- trolling ventilation of a room and has tor its object the provision ot a slide valve adapted to be attached to the lower rail of a window sash to control the passage of air through an opening in the sash.
A further object ot the invention is the provision of a valve comprising a metal plate having its longitudinal edges bent to form guides and plates slidably mounted in said guides, the meeting edge ot one ci the plates being offset to overlap the meeting edge of the other plate and each of the plates provided with an offset tongue formed by parallelincisions, said tongues 'forming stops to limit the movement of 'the plates.
The construction and operation ci the invention will be described infdetail hereinaiter and the construction will be ifound illustrated in the accompanying Ydrawings in which Figure l is a view in elevation of the rear ot the plate,
Figure 2 a front view in elevation showing the plate applied to a window sash, illustrated tragmentally,
Figure 8 a longitudinal sectional view on a plane indicated by the line Sw?) oi' Figure 2, and
Figure t a transverse sectional view on the plane indicated by the line lf-t of Figure 2.
In the drawings similar reference characters will be used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The improved ventilator valve comprisei a plate l having its longitudinal edges bent back on the plate and spaced therefrom as shown at 2 to form guides to slidably receive the valve plates 3 and Li. rEhe outer ends of valve plates 3 and i are bent on themselves, and then at right angles to the planes of the plates as shown at 5 to torni handles for the operation ot' the plates in opening and closing them.
The inner edge ot plate fiis oiiset shown at 6 to overlap the corresponding inner edge ot plate 3 to iorm a substantially air-tight 'joint when the plates are in closed position as shown in the drawings. Plate a is also formed with an integral tongue 7 formed by Seria1 No. 47,117.
making parallel incisions in the ends of the plate and bending the tongue outwardly from the plate as shown, said tongue serving to engage the meeting edge of plate 3` when the plates are in a closed position, and also serving as a stop to engage the end of opening 8 in plate l. Plate 3 is also provided with an outwardly projecting tongue 9 con-y structed similarly to tongue 7 and serving as a stop to limit the outward movement of plate 3 in opening the plate. As shown in Figure 2 the ends oit' the bent back portions 2 .are inclined as shown at l0, and said inclmed ends serve as stops to limit the inward movement oithe plate by engaging the angular portions 5.
In use, the device is attached to a window sash, and preferably the lower rail of the sasn as indicated at A, said sash being provided with an elongated opening B corre sponding to the opening 8 in plate l, and plate l is secured to the rail A by means of driven astenings ll engaging openings 12 adjacent to the ends of the plates. It will be apparent that when the device is in position as shown in the drawings, plates 3 and 4 may be manipulated to partly or entirely open the passage through openings B and 8, or ventilation may be entirely closed by closing the plates.
What is claimed is z- A ventilator valve adapted to be secured to a window sash and to control the passage of air through an opening therein comprising a plate adapted to be secured on a sash and having an opening therein alined with an opening in the sash, guides on the longitudinal edges ot the plate :tormed by folding said edges, valve plates slidably mounted in said guides, one of said valve plates having its edge meeting the other plate offset to overlap the adjacentedge of the otherV plate, and each ot' said plates having a tongue cut therefrom by substantially parallel incisions and bent outwardly of the plates to provide stops to limit the movement ot the plates.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature.
MARTIN SACI-ISE.
