This invention relates -toapparatus Jfor the angular bending or curving lof metal sheet-s and bars, and hasv for its object a construction which A`enables .any `desired bending or curving to beV effectedl without any addition to `or changing of the apparatus. f Y
le attain this end by 'the construction shown Ain 'the accompanying drawings in which Figli-re l is a view in side elevation,
Figure 2 i's 'a view in end elevation., Fig-nre 8 is a view in plan, and Figures l and 5 are Aviews partly -in section illustrating the use of the device and showing different forms of nllers which Imay be employed.
Throughout the views similarV parts are marked with like numerals ot reference.
On a bed pla-te l -ada-ptedto be mounted in'V a hydraulic press are mounted two rollers 2 and 2in each 'of which isa shaped longitndinaflly arranged depression B'w'hic'h converts saidrollers into cams. The cam rollers are Acoupled together'by suitable gearing so that they can loe caused to .rotate simultaneously in opposite directions and means 'is-` provid'ed to lock said rollers against rota-U` tion. We prefer to usevworm gearing as shown in the accompany-ing drawings as su-ch provides an automatic lock. In such aV construction each camv roller `carries za worm wheel '4.- with which two ,opposedr worms 5 carriedby a common Vshaft 6 en. gages, said shaft being provided with means such as the squared ends 7 by which it can be rotated. In the bed plate 1 midway between the cam rollers 2 and 2 are pivoted two former plates 9 and 9 the free edges of which enga-ge the cam rollers 2.
A convenient method of mounting the cam rollers 2 is to form transverse grooves in the bed plate l of a suitable shape to form bearings for said rollers, and a con venient method of pivoting the former plates to said bed plate is to form a centrally arranged semi-circular recess 8 in ity the parts of ed to contact with them.
VThe Yoperative part jot the taller llibrnagy either taire the form of a roller l5 as shoW-n inv Figure l or yoi' a 'bar-shaped proij'ecti'on Y 16 ras shown in Figure i5. lit-the tormer a semicircnlar depress-ion i7 is formed in the body part oi the ulleritoir. the roller 1'5 to., engage with said roller vbeing `connected "to, said vbody part by links 18' which will allow, the necessary relative movement between the '1 roller and the body part to ensure contact between said parts when the tool is in faction. yWhat we claim is l. An `apparatusfor bending -or f'curving metal sheets and bars comprising a bed plate, two cams mounted in parallel relation to one'another on 'said bed plate, means .for rotating` said cams said means comprising, means toriixirrg'said cams after and against rotation, and 'a pairl of itorm'ers. hinged to j the bed platebetween said cams and adaptl An appara-tus for bending v'or curving metal sheets and bars comprising' a bed plate,
two'cam rollers mounted in parallel relationA to one another on y'saidbed plate, means ffor rotating said cam rollers in opposite directions, said means comprising means for lixing said cam rollers after and against rotation, and a pair of former plates hinged tov the bed plate between said-cam rollers and adapted to engage them. l 3. An apparatus for bending and curving metal sheets and bars consisting of a bed plate, two cams mounted on said bed plate in suitable bearings in parallel relation to one another, worm gearing coupling said cams to one another in such a manner that they have simultaneous movement in opposite directions, means whereby motion may be imparted to said gearing, and a pair 'of former plates hinged to the bed plate and adapted to engage said cams.
4. An apparatus for bending and curving metal sheets and bars consisting of a bed plate, two cam rollers mounted on said bed plate in suitable bearings in parallel relation to one another, worm gearing coupling said plate, two cam rollers mounted in parallel relation to one another in grooves in the bed plate, gearing coupling said cam rollers to one another so that Vthey have simultaneous movement in opposite directions, means for imparting motion to said gearing, said gearingincluding means for fixing said cam rollers against rotation, a pair of former plates hinged to the bed plate midwaybetween the cam rollers and. adapted to engage said cam rollers anda fuller adapted to coact with the former plates comprising a body part, a roller and a pair ofv links coupling said roller to said body part in such a manner as will allow the roller and the body part to comeinto contact.
6. An apparatus for bending and curving metal sheets and bars consisting of a bed plate, two' cam rollers mounted in parallel relation to one another in grooves in the base plate, worm gearing coupling said cam roll+ ers to one another so that they have simultaneous movement in opposite directions,
means for imparting motion to said gearing,V
Y a pair of links coupling said roller to said i body part in such a ma'nnerthat saidroller cancontact with said body part.
' against vmovement after they have been rotatably adjusted, and means for imparting motion to said gearing. Y s
8. An apparatus for bending or curving metal sheets and bars comprising a bed plate adapted to be mounted in a hydraulic lpress having three transverse semi-'circular recesses in its upper face, a cam roller'mounted in each of the outer recesses, a pair of for-v mer plates having interengaging semi-circu- Vdo lar projections by which they are mounted in the central recessl in the bed plate, side plates secured to the bed plate to prevent lateral movement of the cam rollers and the former plates, gearing for coupling the cam rollers together, said gearing including means for locking said cam rollers against movement,
after they have been rotatably adjusted, means for imparting motion to said gearing and a fullerv adapted to be carried by the ram of a hydraulic press and to coact with j said former plates,.said fuller comprising a body part adapted torbe mounted in said ram and having a semi-circular groove, a roller, and a pair of links coupling said rollerA to said body part which will allow said roller to come vinto contact with the sernicircular groove in said body part.
