- The invention relates to' improvements in. the knocking over bits of warp machines and hosiery machines, and more particularly it. consists in the arrangement of needle gu1d ing channels at the free ends of the blades of knocking over bits.
The so-called knocking over bit. which is used in certain types of warp-machines and hosiery machines, consists in a number of parallel blades, which are fastened at their one sides in alead block, while at their other free ends, between which the needles or the sinkers or the like are reciprocating up and down, a wire or rod is provided near the extremity of the blades, which wire serves as a support for the needles against the lateral pressure of the resser-bar. However it has been found to be a short-coming of those machines, that the needles are supported only at a mere point by the wire crossing the ends of the knocking over blades, and further the blades themselves work often irregularly in stripping off the meshes or loops of the fab ric from the needles, for the reason that the blades must be arranged in some distance from each other, to allow for the working vibrations of the needles reciprocating be-. tween them.
But warp-machines and hosiery machines,
which are built according to the present invention, may be run with considerably greater speed, so as to turn out a much greater output, because the new and improved construction of the knocking over bit' provides for a much better guidance of the reciprocating needles. and secures a more accurate stripping off from the needles of the meshes or loops of the fabric. Anotherimportant feature of the new construction consists therein, that the needles are supported on a greater part of their length against the lateral pressure of the presser-bar. These advantages are obtained according to the invention by providing the free ends of the blades in knocking over bits with loops, with U-formed shoes, or with oblong eyes, in which the reciprocating needles are guided very close at both sides and in comparatively long guiding channels and are guided likewise at the third side in the direction of the pressure of the presser-ba1z In the drawing Fig. 1 is a section through a knocking over bit, in which the free end of each blade bears a U-shaped needle-guide;

The embodiment of the invention shown in the Figs. land 2 consists in a bent check plate or body a to which a number of knocking over blades 0 are secured by the means of the solder b or insome other convenient way. The free end of each blade is provided with a U-shaped shoe 2', formed preferably by a correspondingly bent piece of metal.
In the embodiment according to Figs. 3 and 4:, instead of the U-shaped shoe an oblong narrow channel 70 is fastened at the end of the blade or shaft 0, which channel-like pleee 70 may be obtained by cutting a ring from a metallic tube and pressing it flat into the shown form of the narrow channel-piece.

1. In knocking over bits for warp-machines and hosiery machines and the like, the combination of a cheek oody, a number of parallel blades, fastened at the one side to the cheek-body, and U-shaped needleguides provided at the ends of the blades opposite to the cheek-body.
2. In knocking over bits for Warp-machines and hosiery machines and the like, the combination of a cheek-body and a number of parallel blades each forming U with prolonged shanks both shanks of which blades are fastened to the cheek-body.
3. In knocking over bits for Warp-machines'and llOSlGF machines and the like, the combination of a cheek-body, and a number of parallel blades formingU-shaped needle guides, the blades being bent upwards from the plane of the cheek-body. V
