ATTACHMENT FOR RADIO RECEIVING SETS.
Application filed July 22, 1922. Serial No. 576,661.
This invention relates to radio receiving apparatus and has for its princi al object to permit the use ofa plurality 0 head sets of other telephones with a single receiving set and to make it possible to locate the head sets or thelike at any suitable place within a reasonable range fromthe relatively fixed receiving apparatus proper.
Further objects of the invention will become apparent as the description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing illustrating a selected embodiment .of theinvention, and in which Fig. l is a plan view of a terminal base adapted to receive a plurality of head sets and be connected with the receiving set;
Fig. 2 is an inverted plan View looking at the bottom of Fig. 1; I 7
Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the terminal base;
Fig. 4 is a diagrammatic view showing how the base with a plurality of telephones is connected with the terminals of a receiving set; and r Fig. 5 is a similar view showing a plug and, jack connection between the cables and the receiving set.
Radio receiving sets in common use at the present are generally equipped with a single ,head set or the like which is connected by short wires or cables with the .receiving set. .As a result only one person can listen to the concerts or the like at a time and that person mustremain' in proximity to the receiving; set. 'By' an attachment made according to my invention, a, plurality of head sets or the like may be connected with a receiving set and may be located at any suitable place within convenient range ofthe receiving set. For examplezif the receiving set is in a down stairs living room, the head sets may be on the porch, in an upstairs living room, or other place.
I accomplish this by providing a terminal base 10 equipped with a plurality of means for receiving head sets or the like and connected by suitable cables 11 with a receiving set 12. As shown, the terminal base includes a block of insulating material 14 hav-' ing secured to itsupper surface a pair of metal bars 15 by means of screws 16 and 17 which pass through thebars and the block and receive nuts 18' and 19 located within suitable sockets 20 and 21 in the bottom of number as, can be the block. The screws 17 are elongated as indicated at 22 andreceive additional nuts 23 by which the cables 11 are connected with the bars. Each of the bars is provided with a plurality of openings 24 toreceive the cables of head sets or the like which are secured within'the openings by means of cables are easily attached to and detached from both the terminal base and the head set and that makes it possible to provide a series of selective cable sets that will permit the terminal base with its plurality of telephones to be located close to the receiving set as is customary at the present time, or in a distant room, on a porch or lawn, or other suitable place at a distance from the receiving-set. Ordinarily the cables will remain connected with the terminal base which will be moved about from place to place as occasion may require, but it will be possible to substitute for the cables permanently installed wiring leading to selected locations to whichthe terminal base may be connected and disconnected as desired.
While the device is primarily intended for use with a plurality of head sets, it will be clear that it may also be used with equal advantage with other forms of telephones.
The invention permits a number of ersonsto listen to the radio communications at once and makes it possible for them to select their locations with regard to personal terial advantages, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such changes as fairly. fall within the scope of the following claim.
I claim: on said securing means disposed in said 10 Means for connecting up a series of head sockets for connection of cables, the said .sets, compi isin a block of insulating mamembers being provided with holes for the terial, a pair 0 members,- means for securreception of the cables of head sets, and
ing said members to the said block, the means coo crating with said holes for securblock being provided with sockets upon its ing the aSt named cables removably infle under face, the securin means for said plaee.-'
members being passed t rough the latter and the block and into said'sockets, means ELHER c. SALLWASSER.
