of semi-cylindrical segments intermediately d sposed at intervals with n seml-clrcular recesses in the contact faces of each pair of slides, each complementary pair of segmentsbeingadapted to be collectively re volved, by means of a sliding-rack'disposed within one of the longitudinal slides so as to gear. with a divided pinion, on the pair of segments, when the slides are in .certain relative positions, to therebytwist the pair of wires passing through the respective segments for formation of the netting, whilst intermittently the segments are adapted to I be'movedlongitudinally by the slides in known manner into new positions in which they again rotate in differently selected pairs, the arrangement being such that during the intermittent longitudinal movement of the segments by the slides, thesegments do not rotate.
The inventionh'as for itsipurpose the provision of means whereby, in case of the recesses of the longitudinal slides becoming worn out, the considerable expense of complete renewal of the slides may be avoided, and whereby the machine maybe adapted for the production of wire nettings of various meshes without the necessity for entire removal of the slides and replacement by slides having recesses of different size and pitch. 7 a
According to the present invention, the longitudinal slides embody interchangeable face plates in which are provided the semicircular recesses for the rotatable semi-cylindrical segments, said recesses being proportionate in pitch to the particular size of mesh to be produced, and being of a diameter adapted to accommodate the particular size of segment to be used. Advantageously the longitudinal slide is built up from separate metal bars, which may be of uniform or of diiferent qualities.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a machine of the type referred to, for making wire netting, the combination of a facially opposed pair of slides arranged for a parallel reciprocating movement in opposite longitudinal directions, a pair of longitudinally extending bearing plates embodied detachably in the opposed faces of the respective slides, said plates having longitudinally spaced pluralities of semi-circular bearing recesses disposed inopposed pairs in the contact faces thereof, and sem icylindrical twisting segments disposed. in rotatable pairs within the respective pairs of recesses so as to take their bearings within said detachable plates; the spacing of the plurality of recesses in each plate being proportionate to the particular size of mesh to be produced, the recesses being of a diameter adapted to accommodate the particular size of segment to be used, and the plates being interchangeable in relation to the permanent'slid'es, to thereby provide for wear and avoid the expense of complete renewal of the slides, and to adapt the machine for the production of nettings of various meshes without the necessity for entire removal of the slides and replacement by slides having recesses of different size and pitch.
