B. WEGLARSKI GUIDE FOR SHUTTLES Filed June 19 1925 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented June siren stares BRUNO WEGLARSKI, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
GUInn non SI-IU'ITLES.
Application filed June 19,1325; I Serial No. 38,135.
This invention relates to improvements in shuttles, particular y shuttles "for carpet weaving looms or similar machines, and it is the principal. object of the invention to provide novel andimproved'means for teeding the fibrous paper strand under a certain tension to the machine or loom.
Another object of thinvention is the provision of ashut'le equippcdwith novel guiding means for the strand.
A further object of the invention is the.
provision ot strand pulley within the shuttle equipped with means for allowing a tensioning of the strand during the feeding operation and a limiting of the displacement of the pulley during the feeding and 'tcnsioning operations.
These and other objects and advantages of the inventioi will become more fully apparent as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be more specifically defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a shuttle constructed according to the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary, sectional View of a tensioning means for a strand guide roller, according to the present invention taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
A shuttle 10 of the customary form, has its front and rear ends pointed and protected by metal mountings 11 and 12. The shuttle has the usual chamber 13 formed therein for the reception of the strand coil 14, held therein by means of a holder strap 15 pivotally attached at one end to a transverse pin 16 in a depression of the shuttle and engaging at its opposite end a depression 17 ot the shuttle and adapted to be held and locked therein by means of a transverse pin 18.
The strand is guided in the shuttle around a pulley roller 19 in approximately the center line thereof, and fed from the shuttle around a marginal pin 20 to the weft in the shed of the warp.
The strand tensioning device is illustrated enlarged in size in Figure 3 in which the strand is guided about pulley 19 rotatably mounted on a vertical pin 29 having an up- 331 screw head 30 and mounted with its lower threaded end in a boss 31 adapted to be displaced in an opening 32 of a bracket 33 mounted transversely of the length of'the shuttle so as to move transversely to act as through a perforation inbracket 33.
Ata point oppositely disposed to the pin 36,,another pin 38 is threaded through an opening of the bracket and carries at its outer end an operating knob '39, while its inner end is spaced from the boss 31 and is adapted to engage the same for limiting its movements in opening 32, to any desired degree.
It will be clear that in this manner a smooth edge of the rug and ready feeding of the strand is ensured while its tensioning may be regulated by the suitable and proper manipulation of pin 36 and spring 35 at tached to the boss 31, the movements of which may be limited by the proper setting of pin 38.
lit will be-understood that while I have shown and described the preferred forms of my shuttle as an example of the many ways of constructing the same, such changes may be made in its construction as fall within the scope of the appended claims without departure from the'spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a shuttle, strand guiding means com prising a pulley, a pin in which said pulley is rotatably held, a movable boss to which said pin is secured, a bracket having an opening in which said boss can be displaced, a spring attached to said boss, an operating pin for said spring to guide said boss in said opening tor tensioning the strand guided about said pulley, and a pin spaced from said boss and adapted to he moved in said bracket to limit the movements of said boss.
2. The combination in a shuttle of a weaving loom, of a pulley rotatably supported by a pin secured to a movable boss engaging in an opening, for displacement, in a bracket fixed within said. shuttle, a spring having one end attached to said boss, and the other end to an operating screw for adjusting the tension of said spring, and a limiting screw to adjust the length of travel of said boss in said openin of said bracket for adjusting the tension of said spring, and a limiting screw to adjust the length of travel of said boss in said opening.
a. The combination in a shuttle of a weaving loom, of a pulley rotatably supported by a pin secured to a movable boss engaging in an opening, for displacement, in a bracket fixed within said shuttle, a spring having one end attached to said boss, and the other end to an'opera-ting screw engaging in one side of said bracket for adjusting the tension of said spring, and a limiting screw engaging in the diametrically opposite side of said bracket to adjust the length of travel of said boss in said opening.
5. The combination in a shuttle of a weaving loom, of a pulley rotatably supported by a pin secured to a movable boss engaging in an opening, for displacement, in a bracket fixed within said shuttle, a spring having one end attached to said boss, and the other end to an operating screw engaging in one 7 side of said. bracket for adjusting the tension of said spring, and a limiting screw engaging in the diametrically opposite side of said bracket to adjust the length of travel of said boss in said opening, whereby said pulley will act as a slack take-up for the strand on the Weft in the flight of the shuttle.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
BRUNO WVEGLARSKI.
