This invention relates to a novel form of nnchanical movement whereby an oscilla- .tory motion may be converted intoa continnous rotary motion7- and `more particularly to its on'ibodiinent in a motor device through a plurality of driving` members operative on a common shaft; and this'application for patentk is a ldivision of my prio-r application Serial Number 129,405, filed November 3rd, 1.916. v i. l

A still furtl'ier and more specific object of the present invention is a motor of the character specified wherein the transmission bands are attached to opposite ends ofk an oscillatory driving member so that while one band isrecovering from the power stroke the other band begins its power stroke cycle.
@ther and further objects of the present invention will in vpart be obvious and will in part be pointed out hereinafter by reference to the accompanying' drawings wherein like parts are represented by like characters throughout the several figures thereof.
Realizing that the present invention may be embodied in constructions other than those specifically herein shown I desire that the disclosure herewith shall be considered as illustrative and not in the limiting sense.

Heretofore in the art of oscillating motors it has been customary to provide a member with a single transmission band and in view of the fact that the power stroke of the band appears to be restricted to the stroke of the operating member which is away from the axis of the rotating wheel or drum, it appears that the driving member is only effective during one-half of its movement, sub- `strokes and to structed sothat both movements of the oscillatory ldriving device are` effective as Serial No. 567,127.

The present invention` is designed more specially to utilize the ycomplete cycle of the oscillation ofthe driving member as power this end the parts are conpower strokes. This may be 'a'.ccomplished in various ways and Yone` simple way comprises'pivoting the drivingmember in such manner that it osoillates upon the pivot and the.coniiectintfr transmission bands on opposite sides of the axis of the pivot so that when one band istensioned the other band is released and viceversa. Thesebands are then 'brought into engagement with a suitable drum vor Vdrums ,mounted upon a ,driving shaft so that the energy from the bands may betransmitted directlyto the shaft.

same are mounted oira common shaft 2 and provided p with respective circumferen tial groovesA 3 with flexible cords or bands t occupying `a portion of the circumference of the said wheels. `One en dof each of these cords is connected to a spring 5 while the other ends of the cords are connected to opposite arms of an armature 6 which is ful-- crumcd between said points of connection. This armature G is adapted to be rocked by electromagnets 7 and 8 that are adapted to be energized by a commercial alternating current or the like. This may be conveniently effected by polarizing such magnets; that is to say, maintaining the pole pieces thereof of the same polarity and employing a commercial alternating current from a suitable source of supply such as 9, Figure l. to energize the same. This causes the armature to be oscillated at a high rate of speed, and in quick short strokes which iinpart a plurality Vof impulses to the bands 4t and thereby applies a large number of powor period the condition in the bands is reversed, thus while one band is slacking the other is tightening` so that a substantially continuous torque is maintained on the shaft- 2 through the wheels l.
Havingthus described my what I claim is:
1. A motor of the character specified con'iprising in combina-tion a plurality of rotatable disks, a common driving shaft upon which said rotatable disks are rigidly mounted, a vibrating' member pivoted in such manner that a portion of each end ot said member extends beyond the pivot and over one ofthe disks, transmission means operatively connected to said vibrating member and encircling' a` portion of each disk, an actuator to vibrate said vibrating member' in quick short strokes, in such manner that said means in connection with one end of the member is relaxed when the means in connection with the other end of said member is taut to alternately impart rotary motion to said disks whereby said shaft is rotated continuously in one direction.
2.1i motor of the character specified, comprising` in combination a driving shaft, a plurality of driving pulleys iixedly mounted tothe drivingshaft, a vibrating member pivoted in substantially the middle thereof, with the pivot located between certain of said driving pulleys so that when said men'iber is vibra'ted the ends thereof alternately7 move toward and away from certain of said pulleys, a plurality of flexible transmission means secured to said member and encircling a portion of certain of said pulleys, and means for vibrating` said member in quick short strokes, in such manner that said flexible transmission means are alternately effective upon certain invention,

3. A motor of the character specified comprising' in combination a driving disk, a llexible transmission member encircling a portion of said driving disk, vibrating means connected to one end of said transmission member, the pivot for said vibrating' means being eccentric to the axis of the driving disk and at substantially right angles to the axis of rotation of said disk, in such manner that the movement of said vibrating means is an arcuate movement which intersects the normal straight line pull of said transmission member, means for vibrating said vibrating means at a high rate of speed and in short quick strokes, and tensioningdevices to maintain said transmission member normally in engae'ement with said disk.
A motor of the character specified comprising' in combination a plurality of rotatable disks, a common driving shaft upon which said rotatable disks are. rigidly "iounted, a vibrating member pivoted between the disks in such manner that one end of said member extends outwardly beyond one of the disks and the other end extends in the opposite direction beyond the other disk, a transmission band operatively connected to each end of said vibratin?,` member with each bandencircling a portion of the adjacent disk, an actuator' to vibrate. said *ibrating member in quick short strokes. in such manner that the band connected with one end of the member is relaxed when the band connected with the other end of said .member is taut to alternately impart rotary motion to said disks whereby said shaft is rotated continuously in one direction.
