Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
JOHN W. SETTLE, OF GLASGOW, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN GRAIN-CRADLES.
Specification formingvpaft of Letters Patent No. 158,745, dated January 12, 1875; application filed v October 3, 1874.
To all whom 'it may concern: Be it known that I, JOHN W. SETTLE, of Glasgow, in the county of Barren and State of Kentucky., have invented a new and useful Improvement in Grain-Cradle, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a front View of my improved cradle, the suath being broken away. Fig. 2 is a section of the same, taken through the line w x, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a detail section, taken through the line y y, Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention Will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
A are the ingers, the rear ends of which.
are secured to a cross-bar, B, in the ordinary manner. The end of the cross-bar B is secured'to the snath O. Upon each iuger A, at the point where the rod usually passes through, is placed a socket, D, which is secured detachably to the fingers` by a small screw passing through said socket and into or through the lingers. The sockets D are designed to be cast of brass or other suitable material, and have a nipple, d, formed upon their upper sides, to pass through holes in the thus less liable to break at that point, while the sockets allow any linger to be conveniently removed and replaced with a new one, should it be broken or warped, Without disturbing the other lingers.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The means for holding together in relative I position the fingers A, cross-bar E, and braces F, consisting of the finger-socket D, having the projecting soft-metal nipple d and perforated lug d', as shown and described.
JOHN W. SETTLE. Witnesses:
