MIXING RECEPTACLE.

- This invention relates to new and useful improvements in mixing receptacles and more particularly to what will be hereinafter known as a mortar-mixing receptacle. The main object of this invention is the provision of a receptacle of the above character which is preferably formed of wood and metal, the parts of which are so arranged with respect to each other as to provide a strong and etiicient receptacle of this character.

Another object of the present invention is the provision of a mortar mixing receptacle constructed of metal and wood parts fitted together in such a manner as to arrange for the bracing of each respective part and also includes suitable reinforcing strips so as to provide a receptacle of this character which will withstand a maximum amount of hard usage and, at the same time, reduce the wear on the same to a minimum.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein reference characters are used to designate the several parts throughout the views, it will be noted that my improved mixing receptacle comprises a substantially elongated shallow body which includes in its construction the metal bottom 1, the ends of which are curved upwardly as at 2, with side walls 8 secured to the bottom and ends thereof in any suitable manner and having end b *acinp; strips 4 attached to the ends of the bottom member 1 and the side walls 8.

any predetermined weight, with its ends curved upwardly to form the end walls 2. Mounted upon the longitudinal edges of the bottom 1 and secured thereto in any suitable manner are the side walls 3 having the lower edges curved as at 5 to conform to the shape of the curved ends 2 of the bottom 1. These curved portions 5 terminate at the ends of the side walls 3, a predetermined distance from the top edge of the side walls, leaving a perpendicular portion 6 at each end of each of the side walls.

Fitted against the perpendicular portion 6 and extending across the end portions of the bottom so that the ends thereof are flush with the outer faces of the side walls are the reinforcing end strips 4. These end strips may be secured to the ends of the side walls 3. in any suitable manner and as noted in Figure 2, the main portion of the curved ends of the bottom 1 extend upwardly on the inner faces of the end members l and are provided at their upper ends with a horizontal flange 7 which extends across the upper edge of each of the end members 4. This flange 7 is secured in any suitable manner to the upper edges of the end portions 4 so as to securely connect the metallic bottom 1 to the end members 4.

Attention is called to Figure 3, wherein it will be noted that a portion of the curved end walls 2 is cut away upon each side so as to permit the end members 4 to tit snugly against the perpendicular ends 16 of the side walls 3. In order to provide for a rigid connection between the several parts related above suitable bracing straps 8 are provided, each strap having one of its ends secured to the upper edge of the side walls and thence bent downwardly and around the end members 4: at their ends. The other end of each strap extends over the outer face of the curved end portions 2 and thence horizontally onto the bottom 1, as shown at 9. These straps which are preferably arranged at each corner of the receptacle may be of any suitable weight metal and are provided at intervals with openings to permit the passage therethrough of fastening screws 10 which will penetrate the wooden structure of the side walls 3 and the end members 4 so as to securely brace the connection between these parts. It will also be noted that by having one end of each of the straps extended around the curved ends 2 and the bottom 1, it will securely retain these members in position with respect to the side walls 3.

It will be apparent from the foregoing that I have provided a mortar mixing receptacle constructed of a combination of wood and metallic parts assembled in manner with respect to each other that will provide a strong and eilicient structure of this character. It will also be noted that by having the metallic reinforcing straps applied in the manner as set forth above, the combination of wood and metallic parts will be rigidly held together with respect to each other so that to prevent the receptacle from becoming distorted during hard usage.

..ll.1e device is preferably used for mortar mixing by the use of shovels in known manner and it is preferably to have the end portions of the bottom sheet, defining the bottom wall, curved upwardly and inwardly to facilitate the use of shovels in mixing or removing the mortar from the receptacle.

While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be apparent that various changes and alterations may be carried out without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described my lllYOl'ltiUD, what I claim is:

A mixing receptacle of the class described including a bottom wall formed from a sheet of material defining a relatively flat portion and vertically extending end portions delining outwardly turned flanges and outwardly and upwardly curved portions intermediate the r tively fiat portion and the vertically OXtQlM portions side walls extending D along the longitudinal edge portions of the relatively flat portion and including verticalextending edge portions disposed inwardly of the vertically extending portions of the sheet and defining curved edge portions inwardly of the vertically extending edge portions disposed against adjacent surfaces of the curved portions of the sheet, end strips arranged beneath the flanges against the outer so. f es of the vertically extending portions of the sheet, reinforcing strips having end portions disposed upon adjacent top edge portions of the side walls and opposite end portions disposed over the outer surfaces of the curved portions of the sheets and intermediate portions extending over the end members, and means for securing the reinforcing strips to the end portions of the side walls.
