SWITCH FOB ELECTRIC WATER-HEATING- APPARATUS.

he invention relates to a switch for electric waterheating apparatus, which is to be arranged in the conduit pipe and which switch closes by means of the water pressure an, electric water-heating circuit when a dry-cock is opened.
The object of the invention is the pro-- vision ofhot water in a simple and quick manner and at any desired moment by member being pressed by means of levers.

I when the piston is moved against the action of counter acting means under the influence of the water pressure, closes the perforations, whereas when the movement of the piston continues the piston rod is pushed forward and switches on the electric current by means of the levers.
As, when opening the dry-cock the heating circuit is closed, hot water can immediately be supplied and as the circuit is also immediately automatically broken when the dry-cock is closed it is impossible to consume more current than is necessary. A further advantage is that always fresh water is supplied, because it is not forced to first pass a collecting tank.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings:

The switch is inounted on a marble plate is a switching device for switching 1. By means of the connecting member 36 the switch is connected to the water conduit and by means of the connecting member 37 to that part of the conduit which leads to a heating apparatus. These connecting mem bers 36 and 37 form part of a cylinder 35, which at 9 and 10 is fixed on the plate 1 and through which the water passes when opening the dry-cock. A pistonlike pressing member 38 is arranged in the cylinder, which is located against the wall of the cylinder by means of piston rings 39. Furthermore the piston 38 is provided with some canal-like perforations 40, the purpose of which is described hereafter. At one end a small shaft 41 extends through the cylinder and at the other end a small shaft 42. One endof the shaft 41 projecting from the cylinder carries a lever 43, on which is arranged a controlling weight 44. Inside the cylinder this shaft 41 is associated with the piston 38 by means of levers 45 and 46. Furthermore a valvelike rod 47 extends through the piston, to which is connected a rod 48, which in turn is hingedly connected to the lever 49 fixedly coupled to the shaft 42. At. one of the ends of the shaft 42 projecting from the cylinder 35 is a lever 50, which is coupled to one end of a rod 13. The cylinder 35 further possesses a by-pass 51, which at 52 and 54 is associated with the inner portion of the cylinder 85. 4 t 52 a regulating valve 55 is arranged.
That end of the rod 13 which is not connected to the lever 50 is supported in a slot 15 of a disc-shaped member 14. This member 14 is fixedly mounted on a shaft 16 which rests in bearing-pedestals 17. On the member 14 there is also provided a ledge 18 formed as a cam. In the opened position of the switch this cam lies against a disc'19 of insulating material, which is carried by one of the arms of a double-armed lever 20. The end of the other arm of said double armed lever carries a contact 21 which cooperates with the second contact 22 fixedly mounted on the plate. Each of these contacts is connected to the terminal 23, 24, respectively. The arm 20 is mounted on a shaft 25, which lies in bearings 26. means of a drawspring 27 the contacts 21 and 22 may firmly be pressed together. A suitable conduit, which is coupled to the connecting member 37, serves to connect the cylin er 35 through which the water passes to the heating, :lPPUtltHS. It now the drycocl; is opened, the pressure exerted by the water will push the piston forward, while a lows to pass a quantity oit water, which previously has been regulated by the valve This. valve is adjusted in accordance with the capacity of the apparatus so as to preclude the possibility of the passage through the apparatus of a volume of water in excess of that which can be heated to the required temperature.
During the first movement the piston 3 will engage the valvelilte ledge of the piston rod -l-i", which closes the perforations in tl piston and by a tnrther movement of the piston, the piston rod is also moved in a forward direction and switches on the electric current by means of lovers. (bring to the forward movement of the piston the controlling weight -il-l has reached. the position indicated by the dotted lines, whereas also lever 50 has come to the position shown by the dotted line. In this manner the rod 13 has been moved upward in the slot 15 and has positioned itselt against the upper side of this slot and pressed away the disc shaped member 1 1-. The shatt 16 has also made a rotating movement and has removed the ram 18 from the. disc 19 ot the doublearined lever 20. By the action of the spring 27 and by the weight of the arm 20 the contact 21 is broughtto the contact 22, so that the water heating circuit is switched in. it subsequently the dryeock is closed the water in the cylinder will stand still and no tart-hm action will be exerted on the piston 38. .By means of the weight a l the piston 38 will be moved back, will push against the nut 56 ot the rod l7 and drag away the rod '50. The rod 13 is moved downward and rotates the disc-shaped member l-'land shatt l6, tor which purpose an additional weight 34- has been arranged on shaft 16 thereby causing the lever 20 to more upward and to break the heating circuit. By means Of the canals -il-(l which pass through the piston 38 the pressure at both sides of the piston is compensated.

Further the temperature of the water may be regulated in a simple manner viz by opening the dry-cock more or less.

it is clear that the switch may be so adjusted, that for example the first contact is not passed. before a determined number of cocks has first been opened.
In order to prevent the tanning ot' the contacts the device may further be so constructed that the arm 56 first energizes a haw-current relay. The armature oi? this relay then closes circuit for a power current relay, which after having been energized closes the heating circuit.

2. A switch device o-fthe character described particularly for electric heating apparatus, comprising a cylinder, a piston like member, having at least one perforation extending therethrough, a by-pass communicating with both sides of the piston, a counter-weight and lever connecting means for automatically moving the piston to close the bypass at one end, a piston rod movable relatively to the piston, a valve member consistin of an annular ledge on the said piston rod for engaging the piston and closing the said perforation in the piston when the latter is moved against the actiono'f the counter-weight by water-pressure, and a switch operated by the movement of the piston to switch on and oil the electric ourrent.
4. A switch device of the character described particularly tor electric water-heating apparatus, comprising a cylinder, a piston like member having at least one perforation extending therethrough, a by-pass communicating with both sides out the piston, means for automatically moving the piston to close the bypass at one end, a piston rod movable relatively to the piston, a valve member on the said piston rod for closing the said perforation in the piston, and a switch comprising fixed and movable contact members, a swinging member carrying the movable contact members, a rotary cam device for operating the swinging member and link and lever connections between the piston and saic cam device for operating the switch by the movement of the piston to switch on and off the electric current.
