This invention relates to improvements in electric connectors ot the jack type.
The invention is directed to the provision ofa. jack of improved cpnstruction which is receptive, within limits. of plugs of differe'nt diameters: which is designed to hold the plug perpendicularly with respect to the face of the panel; which is provided with means for clamping electrical conductors in a quickly detachable manner; which enables the making of quick circuit changes; which is inexpensive to m nufa'ct-ure; and, which may be easily installed.
These objects are attained in accordance with the invention by the provision of a for insertion ofa p ug, opposed spring contacts on the plate adapted to contact with the plug, and spring clips at the sides of the plate forming clamps for binding leading in wires. .7
The device is applicable of general use in connecting parts of electric circuits, and may be conveniently employed in radio telephone apparatus. In the latter use it perunits of plugging in receivers having tips or plugs of different diameters, of connecting the circuit so as to allow use of several sets of headphones, and of quickly changing andhooking up the circuit in a variety of different ways. Because of its simplicity, and-the ease with which it may he installed and used, the device is particularly useful for home-made radio sets.

Referring to the drawings, the device comprises a suitable meial'plate 1 having an opening and formed with opposed spring contacts 2, arranged with their contact faces over substantially the center of the opening. and a plurality of spaced lingers or spring clips .3 l between which the conductors 5 may he held in a quickly detachable manner. Preferably, though'not necessarily, the plate with the spring contacts and clips will be made of a single piece of material. 1
A sleeve or tube 6, preferably having a conical-shaped head, passes through the panel 7' and the opening in the plate 1. The
sleeve serves to guide the tip or plug 8 into engagement with the spring contacts 2. Inse rtion of the plug separates the spring contacts sufficiently to receive the.
plug. and make contact therewith. As the spring contacts press uniformly against the plug at equally spaced points they operate 'to hold the plug perpendicularly with respect to the plane of the panel. Furthermore, it will be noted that the spring contacts are self-accommodating, within limits, to tips or plugs of different diameters.
The plate 1 may be attached to the panel in any suitable manner as, for example, by means of fastening screws 9. In the modification illustrated in Fig. 4 there is shown a means of fastening which avoids use of fastening screws and the consequent necessity of drilling or forming screw-holes in the panel. In that form of the device the sleeve 6 is externally threaded at 10 for engagement with the internal threads of the lug 11 of the plate 1. By screwing the sleeve to the plate the parts will be securely held in position on the panel. I
While the spring clips 3-4: provide a con.- venient means of connecting the conductors 5 they may. if desired, be eliminated and in such case the conductors may be connected to the jack in any usual manner.

' What we claim is:
A jack comprising a metal plate having a plug receiving opening and formed with an upturned internally threaded flange surrounding the opening, a plurality. of upstanding spring contact fingers carried on the plate with their free ends disposed over the opening to contact auton'iatically with the plug upon its insertion in t-heopening. and a sleeve having an externally threaded inc end for engaging with the internal threads of the flange.
