J.LHTNER WAFFLE IRON Filed July 2- 1924 Patented May 25, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WAFFLE IRON.
Application filed July 2',
This invention is in the way of a set of wafile irons, and the object is to provide such irons which will supply the cooked waffles of a meniscus form in cross section and with I a surface design imitating the Egyptian pyramids.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a plan View;
Figure 2 is a transverse section;
Figure 3 is a plan view of a waffle as formed by this set of irons;
Figure 4 is a transverse section through the wattle as formed.
This invention includes the usual heavy, 1 annular base casting 1, adapted to set over the hot plate of the stove. This base has handle and hinge cut-outs 2 and 3 respectively, at oppositev sides thereof. Two waffie irons at and 5 are provided, the same each having a handle 6 adapted to overlap in the handle cut-out 2 of the base, and each having a laterally extend-ed hinge lug 7 opposite to the handles, hinged together at 8 and adapt ed to lie within the hinge cut-out 3 of the base. The irons 4 and 5 are spaced apart for the required thickness of the waffles to be cooked, and they each have outer annular sections 9 curved in one direction, and centers 1O curved in the opposite direction.
1924. Serial No. 723,688.
This structure imparts a corresponding form to the watlies so that they stand balanced, and so that they do not lie flat on the plate when served. The inner surfaces of the irons 4: and 5 are patterned and cut with a plurality of designs in similitude of pyramids 11 to impart a design to the waflies.
While I have herein described a certain specific manner and method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood that I may vary from the same in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention, so as best to construct a practical device for the purpose intended, as defined in the appended claim.
I claim:
A waflle iron comprising parallel, complementary mold sections, each of said mold sections comprising an outer annular portion having an outer free edge, and a center portion, the said annular portion, when the sections are in their normal, closed position, being gradually outwardly and downwardly curved to its outer, free edge, and saidcenter portion being downwardly depressed.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature.
JOSEPH LEITNER.
