This invention relates tocOllapsible cores for concrete,construction purposes.
It is an objectoi' the invention to provide a core, which. is collapsible both laterally and longitudinally andw'liich may therefore be readily. withdrawn after a concrete wall or body has sufficiently set about the core. I

v The present invention consists of a metallic hollow core structure for use in the construction of concrete bodies such as walls or buildings. 7
Thecore consists of side panels 2, havi119, flat wall portions with inturned top and bottom flanges 3. The panel parts 2 have curved ends fz which are over-lapped and fastened as by bolts 4. Thus a pair of parallel panels 2, when secured at their over lapping jends, form a Ushaped core sect-ion. Two of these U-shaped sections are adapted to be assembled with their flat ends 2" in overlapping relation as clearly shown in Fig. Qand thus form a hollow core structure adapted to be readily disposed in a mold box indicated at M into which plastic concrete C is poured for the construction of a wall or other concrete body. v k
The hollow cores'rn'ay be of any dimensions and are adapted to be placed at suitable locations in upright positions as in Fig. 1.
To prevent the collapse of the hollow cores, keepers or spacers are provided and these consist of substantial plates substantially of channel form and having outwardly turned flanges 5 to be disposed upon the flanges 3 of the core. The flanges 5 are provided With apertures 5 to receive staplelike devices 6, the legs of which are adapted to be extended into apertures 8 of the flanges 3, and therefore operate to key the side panels of the core to the keepers 5. The keepers are adapted to be pulled fron their positions after the concrete inass C has set and for this'purpose the keepers may be connected as by sut 'liciently strong pieces of rope R which may be grasped at the upper end and pulled to; dislodge the lneepers and the retaining staples tifromthe cores. Upon removal of the lzeepers the core sections may. then be longitudinally and laterally collapsed to be drawn from the chambers in the concrete body. p

When desire-d an expansion plate can be introduced at the overlapping portions 2 on the ends of the core and the core can be lengthened by the introduction of an exp'ansion plate 15 under theoverlapping ends 2 of the plate. 'llieseplates are perforatet to receive the fastening bolts 4.

2. In combination, a sheet metal collapsible concrete mold core, spacing devices applicable to the upper and lower portions of the core to sustain the same, and staple-like fastening means for connecting the spacing devices to the core, and permitting ready removal of the devices from the core.

4-. A collapsible metal core for concrete construction including U-shaped sections, nd spacing members having outwardly naied flanges adapted to rest upon the parllei walls of said sections with portions iisposed therebetween so as to prevent colapse of said sections.
A collapsible metal core for concrete construction comprising two U-shaped sections, said sections including panels having interned flanges at their tops and bottoms, a spacing member adapted to engage the up )er flanges of said panels to keep them in proper, spaced relation, a second spacing member engageable upon the lower flanges of said panels to keep them in proper, spaced relation, and a tie means conn eting said spacing members to facilitate removing of said second spacing member.

A panel section adapted to form a part of a collapsible core for concrete construction comprising a panel having an end bent out of the plane of the body of the panel, and flanges bent out of the plane of the body at the top and bottom thereof, there being apertures formed in the flanges and along the side edge of the mentioned bent end as and for the purpose described.

A panel section adapted to form a part or" a collapsible core for concrete construction comprising a panel having an end bent out of the plane of the body of the panel, and flanges bent out of the plane of the body at the top and bottom thereof, there being apertures formed in the flanges and along the side edges of the panel as and for the purposes described.
8. A collapsible core for concrete construction comprising two U-shaped sections, each section including panels having bent ends, aspacing plate adapted to be inserted between the bent ends, and means for connecting the bent ends of the sections together. or to the edges of the spacing plate.

A collapsible core comprising two U- shaped sections having intnrned top and bottom flanges, and removable spacing means engageable upon the flanges oi each section to keep the sides of the sections properly spaced, said spacing means serving also to connect the flanges of one U- shaped section to the flanges oi the other Ll-shaped section.
14. A collapsible core comprising a pinrality of substantially U-shaped sections, flanges extending inwardly from the top and bottom of each side of each section, said flanges having apertures therein, and elements rem vably positioned in said apertures.
