TICKET BOOK.
Application filed December 20, 1924. Serial No. 757,128.
This invention relates to ticket books and similar devices, the tickets of which have relative values; and the object of the invention is to provide a device of the class speci- Iied employing a multiplicity of ticket members bound together at one end, the tickets being scored adjacent the bound end whereby when the separate tickets are dissected, a binder portion remains and the resulting ticket is oblong and rectangular in form and may be used as an admission ticket to a bazaar or other affair; a further object being to provide on the separate tickets a number preferably positioned thereon ad jacent the bound portion; a further object being to provide other vlsible symbol 1nd1cating data on the separate tickets, such for example as names of towns, numbers, etc; a further object being to provide a wrapper or jacket for the tickets with means for binding and securing the same to the bound portion of the tickets; a further object being to provide means for preventing the compression of the sides of the tickets; a still further ob-' ject being to provide bound means extending a predetermined distance into and in parallel relation with the tickets, and upon which one of the second named symbol indicating data is applied; and with these and other objects in view, the invention consists in a device of the class and for the purpose specified, which is simple in construction, efficient in use and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accom- 'pany drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of our improvement are 1ndicated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the complete device in sealed position.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing parts of the device in extended position.
3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 and indicating the position the device assumes when permitting the removal of tickets.-
Fig. 1 is a section on the line 14 of Fig. 3. i
Fig- 5 is a perspective view diagrammatically illustrating the detachment of a ticket. H V j Big. 6 is a perspective detail View of the bound end portion of a device such as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and illustrating a modification; and, j
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the free edge portion of a device showing another modification.
In the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive, we provide a predetermined number of sheets of paper or cardboard 10 divided by a score line 11 into ticket portions 12 and stub portions 13. The ticket portions 12 are printed in any suitable manner or with any suitable data thereon and may be printed to give an admission value thereto; and preferably in one corner portion of the separate tickets 12 is printed or other wise arranged symbol indicating numbers as indicated at 14:, the numbers being irregularly arranged on the separate tickets as stacked and bound together by a wire stitching 15 passed through the stub portions 13. Printed or otherwise affixed to the free edge portion of the separate tickets are other symbol indicating data 16.
l/Ve also provide a casing or jacket 17 within which the tickets 12 and stubs 13 are placed and to which the same are fixedly secured, said casing or jacket comprising a suitably fashioned sheet of cardboard or heavy paper, one end portion of which is folded to form one facing 18 for the tickets 12 and. provided with side flaps 19 foldable around the side edges of the tickets 12 and upon the opposite face thereof, and a wire stitching 20 is passed through the facing 18 and through the stub portions 13 of the tickets 12 and through the flaps 19 as clearly seen in Figs. 2 and l of the drawing, and this construction securely binds the tickets or the stub portions thereof within the casing or jacket 17 and within the first named end portion thereof. The other end portion of the casing or jacket comprises an elongated part 21 foldable around the bound edge of the tickets and upon the flaps 19, and at the free end of the part-'21 is a flap 22 which passes around the protruding portions of the tickets and extends into the first named end portion of the casing or jacket between the tickets and the wall 18. lVhen the casing or jacket has been folded into closed position as above set out, asealing band 23 of strong paper or of fabric is P sed around the fre g P i of the parts 18 and 21, and the ecge portions of the flaps l9, and a rupturable seal 2st is pasted or otherwise secured to the flap 22 and the adjacent portion of the sealing band 23 as seen in Fig. 1.
In making up the tickets 12 from the paper or other sheets 10, it is preferred that a slip of paper or like material 25, folded as shown at 26, be placed ithin the bound portions 13 and bound therewith by the wire stitch and on the folded paper and upon its inner face is arranged data which will be similar to the symbol indicator 16 on one of the tickets 12 within the complete package or book. it is also preferred that when the casing or acket 1? is composed of con'iparatively light material, that a stil fening and reinforcing member 27 be mounted within the casing or jacket portion of the tickets to prevent the movement of the side edges of the complete book, tog-ether or toward each other in the attempt to read or detect the symbol indicator numbers 1% on the separate tickets 12. In other words, by using the reinforcing member 2?, the iossibility of seeing or inspecting the numbers 14': is obviated and in the construction shown, the member 27 is mounted between predetermined sheets of the papers 1( and is bound therewith by the wire stitches 15, it being noted that the free edge of the member 2. terminates at the free edge of the casing or jacket 17, and it will also apparent that the member 27 fits snugly within. the side walls or" the casing or jacket formed by the side portions of the flap 19. It will be understood however, that we are not necessarily limited to any s ecilic location of the member 27 nor to the material fronrwhich it is constructed.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that when the ticket book is in sealed position as shown in 1, access to or the removal of the separate. tickets 12 can only be accomplished by breaking the rupturablo seal which will detect the fact that the package has been opened. and a tter said seal is broken, any number of the'tickets may be removed from the package at will, the same being sold by the symbol indicating data 16. The merchandise ticket is designated by the folded sheet of paper which is removed by destroying the wrapper or casing or jacket 17 when all'o'f the tickets have been sold and removed from the book. It will also be apparent that when the ticket book is in the position shown in F 3 of the drawing, all of the tickets 12 are securely retained in the casing or acket through the bound portions 18 thereof, and said tickets can only be removed by tearing oil" at the score line 11, unless the seal 23 is destroyed or the casing or acket as a whole destroyed.
It is also preferred that two mere iandisedesignating numbers will be printed on the outside of the casing or jacket, such for example as the numbers 71 and 8, see Fig. 1 of the drawing, and in selecting the separate tickets 12, it a party removes a ticket on which one of the numbers 71-8 appears, such ticket entitles the purchaser to predetermined merchandise.
In Fig. 6 of the drawing, we have shown a slight modification ot' the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive, which consists in providing a ditlerent method or arrangement ot the scoring shown in said ligurcs; and in Fig. (3, one sheet 10 is scored as shown at 28, and the next adjacent sheet as show at 29, whereby one ticket 12 is longer than the other, and also whereby the numerals 1 1 on the longer tickets will be covered by the bound portion of the shorter tickets.
In Fig. 7 of the drawing, we have shown another modification in which the tongue member 22 is omitted on the casing or jacket and the seal 23 is made a. bit wider than in the construction shown in Fig. 1 off the drawing, and the separate sheets 10 or the tickets 12 thereof are out to form movable portions 12 on which the data 16 is applied, and the seal 23 is weakened and rupturable adjacent'the cut portions of the tickets to permit the parts 12 to be moved with respect to the remaining or bound portion as clearly illustrated in Fig. 7 and also to facilitate the removal of the separate tickets. lVith this construction, the free edge porti ons of the tickets are protected by the casiugor jacket 1'? and the seal 23 passed thereuround will be apparent.
It will be understood that while we have shown certain details of construction to carrying our invention into effect, that w are not necessarily limited to these details and various changes therein and modifications thereof, may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the sp' it of our invention or sacritie ing its advantages.
