UNITED STATES,
PATENT OFFICE.
I .ALONZOALDRICH, OF BELOIT, WISCONSIN.
rennin-MAKING, macnn'ml Application filed May 14, 1921; Serial No. 469,558.
My invention relates to paper making machines, particularly of the Fourdrinier variety. The invention relates more particularly to that part of the machine by which the material is fed to the wire.
vide a simple and practical arrangement.
for adjusting the flow or feed of the matrial.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is,
a side elevation of a part of a paper making machine embodying my present invention- F ig. 2 is a similar elevation of a part of \the mechanism shown in Fig. 1, adjusted to a different position;
Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the same; Fig. 4'is a View similar to Fig. 3 of a portion of a modified form of device; and
Fig. 5 is a View similar to Fig.1 of a still further modification.
Referring to'the drawings, 1- show a box 1 which is understood to containpulp or suitable material for the making of paper, such material being shown at 2. The draw ings also show part of a table 3 provided with rolls 4-4 mounted on journals 55 and on these rolls 44 is the. wire 6which travels around the breast roll 7 supported in bearings 8. Above the table 3 and wire 6 is a deckel strap 9 mounted on a deckel wheel 10, the strap 9 resting upon the wire 6. .The deckel wheel 10 is supported by a support 11 bolted to the table 3 by bolts 14.
An outlet preferably in the form of a nozzle or spout 16 is'attached to the head box 1, preferably so that its open end-shall clear the wire 6 at the top of the-breast roll,- between the deckel stra 9 and another deckel strap which is un erstood to be on the opposite side of the wire 6. From the head ox 1 the material for the paper may flow through this spout 16 on to the wire 6. For controlling the :flow from the box, I show a vertically adjustable ate or shutter 17 arranged to slide vertica on the inside of the tank wall and arranged to more or less open and close the aperture 18 which affords communication between the interior of the box 1 and-the spout or nozzle 16. V For adjustment of this gate 17 a rod 19 is shown, extending up to the top of the box and projecting above the same and'having a handle 20 by which it may be adjusted so as to raise and lower the gate 17.
'To permit the fiow of material from the spout 163 to be adjusted the outlet or orifice f 21 ofsaid spout is referably made adjustable, as for examp e by hinging the upper wall 22 thereof as at 23 so that said upper wall may be swung up and down. As a means of making adjustment, I show an adjusting screw 24 which is arranged in a bearing 25 and has at its end a loose connection with a cleat 26 on the swinging cover 22. By turning the screw 24 the member 22 may be swung up and down and the size of the orifice 21 varied. In Fig.- 1 the member 22 is shown in a rat her elevated position, whereas in Fig. 2
said member is shown in a lowered position with the orifice more contracted, As
shown in Fig. 3, it is preferable to have a plurality of screws 24 located at intervals along the length of the member 22, so that adjustment may be made of the entire length of said member. The discharge end of the upper plate or member 22 may be sprung up or .down by screws 24 to make flow opening more or less at center than towards the'sides.
In Fig. 4 is shown a modification in which the member 22 is made in sections 2222,
and'each section provided with a separate screw 24--24', so that the orifice 21 may be adjusted to difi'erent sizes at diiferent points in its length if desired. k
In Fi .5 is shown a still further modification, in which the support for the deckel wheel 10 is somewhat different from that of Fig. 1. In Fig. 5 a support 13 is shown comprising an angle bar pivoted at 30 and connected at 31 for adjustment by slot 32,
whereby the'deckel wheel 10 carried at 33 ing from the spirit of the invention. l/Vhat I claim is:
1. The combination with the table and head box, of a spout or nozzle extending from the box to the table and arranged to discharge material upon the wire, means for controlling the flow of material fromthe box to the spout and means for controlling the flow of material from the spout to the wire.
2. The combination with the table and head box, of a spout or nozzle extending from the box to the table and arranged to discharge 'material upon the wire, means at the box for opening and closing thebox end of said spout, and means'at the discharge ndjof said spout for controlling the Sii'Z'fiof the discharge orifice of said spout,"
3. The combination with the head 'bolr' or vat, of an outlet from the same to wire, means for adjusting the amount of flow from said outlet, and means for supporting deckel wheels from the head box.
4. The combination with the head boy or vat, of outlet from the same to wire, means for adjusting the amount of flow from said outlet, and means for supporting deckel' wheels from the head box, said supporting means being adapted to permit adjustment of said wheels.
Inwitness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 2nd day of May, A. .D., 1921.
ALONZO ALDRICH.
