Description
Patented May 4, 1926.
UNITED STATES CHARLES CLUTSOM, F COALYILLE, EN GLAND.
ELASTIC THREAD, CORD, AND THE LIKE, AND TO ELASTIC WEB MADE THEREFROM.
N0 Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES CLUTsoM, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Coalville, Leicestershire, England,
have invented new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Elastic Threads, Cords, and the like, and to Elastic'VVebs Made .Therefrom, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to elastic threads, cords and the like for use as warps in the manufacture of elastic webs and fabrics and has for its object to overcome a certain disadvantage at present experienced as will be 1 hereinafter described.
As is well known, when elastic web or fabric is operated upon in a sewing machine as, for example, when sewing the web or fabric to agarment or for other purposes,
the needle is liable to penetrate or cut the thread of the rubber warp with the result that this is weakened or-severed to the subsequent detriment of the elasticity of the web or fabric.
To overcome this I propose to provide in a covered rubber warp two or three elastic threads instead of the customary single threads so that in the event of the needle penetrating said warp it will either pass between the elastic thread without damage to either or any of them, or if it should injure and consequently weaken one, or even completely sever one of the threads, there will remain another or others to prevent collapse of the warp.
It is customary to use in the manufacture of elastic webs and other fabrics wherein elastic is incorporated rubber threads which Serial No. 60,921.
are covered by a wound covering of cotton or the like. That is to say the elastic thread or cord consists of a single core of rubber covered with inelastic thread or threads.
One feature of this invention consists of a covered elastic cord, for use as a Warp in the manufacture of elastic webs and fabrics having two or three rubber cores or threads. That is to say instead of using a single rubber thread or strand as the core, we run two or three threads together and cover them by the same covering which binds them together. The covering may consist of any suitable material and be applied in any suitable manner.
A further feature of the invention 0011- sists of an elastic web or fabric having one or more elastic warps incorporated therein characterized by the feature that said elastic warp or warps contains or contain two or three rubber cores or strands enclosed within a common covering which binds them together.
What I claim then is 1. An elastic cord, for use as a warp in the manufacture of elastic webs and fabrics, containing a plurality of rubber cores not exceeding three enclosed within a common covering which binds them together.
2. An elastic web or fabric having elastic warps incorporated therein each of which contains a plurality of rubber cores not exceeding three enclosed within a common. covering which binds them together.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
CHARLES CLUTSOM.
