iiinventkm relates to an improved refrigerator construction and particularly to tlmtr pnrti on of. refrigerator-which*supparts the? refrigerating elements.
1 0 An object: of 'my invent-Ion is to produce an; inipmitedgrefrigeraton construction which is particnlnrl y'desrgned to bring about conditions: ef ancreased "refrigeration with greater efliciency than has been attained by other; constrmctionskmn .to. .me.
A further object is to produce a refrigerator construction which is readily adaptable and as efficient in its operation for use with cakes or crushed ice as it is for use with the usual refrigerating coils of refrigerating aparatus. V
A further object of my invention is to produce a refrigerator construction which may be readily dismantled or taken apart for the purposes of cleaning or repairing or replacing the parts thereof, so that perfect preservation of the refrigerator and its contents is assured throughout.
These and other objects are attained in the construction described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a fragmental perspective View of the portion of a refrigerating mechanism which embodies my invention, certain parts having been shown removed and broken away for clearness of illustration.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, all parts being shown in position. V

Fig. 4 is a fragmental perspective view of a detail of my invention,
Fig. 5 is a view similar toFig. 2, but of the novel features slightly modified and taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 6.

ing the use to which the placed.
Although my improved refrigerator isasreadily adaptable to use with refrigerating coils as with ice, I have chosen .to describe the formusrng the -cells, asthepreferred format my intention. The'structure which,
embodies the features of novelty is located. between; the side walls ,8 and :92 of the-usual refrigerator casing and .ata sufiici-ently spaced distance below the top '10 .of'the case ingg. Extending from-side to. side of-ithe-acasiing are a series of uniformly spaced beams 11. Upon these beams and extending from front tO lQtll of the casing are deflecting walls 12 and 13. Beneath these walls and extending toward each other are baffle platforms 14 which n are located removably be tween adjacent beams. Each of these platform is inclined downwardly toward the center in order to have its inner edge immediately over a gutter. The inner edges of the platforms are spaced apart to form a central space 15 and on each side of the passages are gutters 16' and 17 which have been provided to catch the drippings from the platforms. Upon the beams and either integral therewith or addedthereto as shown in Figs. 1
' and 6, have been located supports 18 and 19 platforms 14 and the walls 8 and 9 are suitably insulated as by materials 21 and then covered with met-a122, the material 21 servmg to prevent the water of condensation fromthe metal 22, from coming lnto contact with and thereby causing deterioration of the Wood.
The operation of the construction when refrigeration is brought about isto cool the air and cause it to descend over the downwardly inclined platforlnsurfaces toward the central space 15. p The cool air will drop as indicated by the central arrows, and
gradually becoming warmed, will arise along the walls 8 and 9, between the walls 8, 12 and 9, l3 and will become cooled as it again becomes chilled by contact with pipes 20. In arisingsome of the warm air will engage the under inclined surface of the platforms and will be directed, with the remainder of the air, between the walls 8, 12 and 9, 13 and thence be in a position .to again be cooled and directed downwardly through the center opening.
In the construction'shown in Figs. 5, 6 and 7 there is provided an additional element 23'wliich' is in the nature of a water sl'ied-located o'verthe opening 15. This 'w'ater shed is supported on the beams 11,
and has its outer edges sloping toward the platforms 1 L but spaced from them so that moisture dripping therefrom will fall upon the platforms and be diverted therefrom insth gutters 16 and 17. Also space between the water shed and platforms allows the air to pass downwardly as in the previous construction. Upon the platforms and water shed of this modified construction the cakes of ;ice 24, which are used instead of the refrigerating coils 20, may be placed, if
crushed ice is used suitable platforms may be provided to hold same from clogging the air spaces. Each gutter is provided with supported by' and between the beams and inclining downwardly from the sides of the casing toward the center and spaced apart so as to leave acentral air passage, gutters beneath the lower edges of the baffle platforms, supports located in spaced relation on each of the beams and projecting above the baffle platforms on a horizontal line with the top plane of the water shed, a removable water shed supported by the beams in the spaces between the supports and located between the opposite sets of baflle platforms to act as a bridge over the central air passage, adapted to drain unto the platforms and spaced therefrom, said water-shed, supports, and baflle platforms being adapted to receive refrigerating elements thereon.
In witness whereof, I aifix my signature.
JAMES e. SHECKELS.
