Description

' April 20,, 1926.
, .-1,5s1,5e3 J. H. BROWN RESERVOIR PAD AND THE LIKE Filed Nov. 20. 1922 UNETEF) STATES ZI'QHN HENRY BROWN, OF ILFORD, ENGLAND.
RESERVOIR, PAD AND THE LIKE.
Application filed November 26, 1922. Serial N0. 602,302,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, JoI-IN HENRY BROWN, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 54c Empress Avenue, Cranbrook Park, Ilford, Essex, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Reservoir Pads and the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to reservoir pads and the like of the kind in which the liquid or semi-liquid in a container is delivered therefrom ready for application to a surface by means of a pad or receptive surface, said liquid or semi-liquid being delivered to the delivery nozzle of the container by gravity or otherwise in the case of a rigid vessel or by pressure or otherwise in the case of a collapsible container.
According to the invention, the absorbent pad or receptive surface, which may be made of felt, metal or any other material is adapted to be secured to the body of the container or to a cap or other fitting screwed or otherwise attached thereto, by a tubular integral portion of the body cap or other fitting. The tubular portion is passed into a hole or perforation in the pad or receptive surface and is afterwards flared out by means of a suitable tool to grip the pad or receptive surface firmly in position.
In order that the invention may be readily understood, reference is made to the accompanying drawings, which show by way of example the preferred embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation of the top of a collapsible container in which a pad or absorbent material is employed secured to the body of the container, the cap being shown screwed thereon.
2 is a side elevation of the. container showing the cap removed therefrom,
Referring to the drawings, the body of the container is provided with an outlet orifice 11, formed in a tubular extension 12 of said body. The tubular extension is formed integrally with the body of the container and serves to secure the pad 13 in position. In attaching the pad, the tubular extension 12, fits into a perforation in the centre of the pad and by use of a suitable tool or other device, the outer open end of the extension is flared out or spun over to firmly grip the pad in position between said flared out portion 15 and the upper surface 1 L oil. the body of the container. The flaring out of the extension produces a shallow depression in the upper surface of the pad 13, as shown in Fig. 1 at 16, and the upper rim of the liared portion 15 is located beneath the depressed surtace oi' the pad, so that when the device is in use, no portion of the extension will come into contact with the surface to which the liquid or semidiquid in the container is being applied by means of the pad. The pad is formed of a single layer of felt or other suitable absorbent material or it may consist of several layers which may be of the same diameter.
The outer upper surface of the body 10 of the container is provided with screw threads 18, serving to enable a cap to be attached thereto. The cap'19 may be formed from sheet metal by pressing, stamping, spinning or the like, and is provided in its top with a depression which forms a closing plug for the o taen flared end or" the tubular eX-- tension when said cap is screwed into position as shown in Fig. l. I
In order to strengthen the container body 10 at the point where the cap is attached thereto, it is provided internally with a reinforcing disc 21 having a central aperture 22 for the passage of the liquid or semiliquid to the delivery orifice.
The pad may be formed of any other absorbent material other than felt it so desired, and when the sad is built up of two or more layers, the lowermost layer may be formed of cork, metal or other non-absorbent material.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent in United States of America is:
1. A reservoir pad comprising in combination, a container, having a cylindrical exit tube, a pad having an aperture in which said exit tube is fitted, the said tube having an outwardly flared portion extending around said aperture and overlying and bearing upon the pad to secure it to the container.
2. A reservoir pad comprising in combination, a container, having an integral cylindrical exit tube, a pad having an aperture in which said exit tube is fitted, the said tube having an outwardly flared portion engaging with the material of the pad, and an outer cap fitting around said pad and the 10 adjacent end of the container and provided with a depression forming a closure for said exit tube.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name.
JOHN HENRY BROWVN.
