Description

J 1,581,399 A. c. FISCHER Y EXPANSION JOINT INSTALLINQ DEVICE April 20 1926.
:Filed 0d. 19., 1925 Patented AP UNITED STATES PATENT QF'FI-CEj.)
ALBERT C. FISCHER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
ExPANSION-JOINTJKSTALLING nEvIcn.
Application filed October 19, 1925. Serial No. 63,364. I
To all 'iohom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ALBERT C. FISCHER, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of, Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Expansion-Joint-Installing Devices, of which the following is a specification. a This invention relates to a colnbination of a strip of expansion joint and a false strip which completes the sides of the joint tic material made in strip form having anchoring means, so that the same can be in serted with the expansion joint. The crowning strip may thus be arranged to be temporary in which case the strip would be removed and another suitable filler substi tnted or the strip may remainpermanently.
'My invention relates to the combination."
of a removable crowning strip and an ex pansion joint base for the purposes later described.
- Referring to Figure 1, (1) represents the crowning material, while (0) represents the fastening nails or prongs embedded therein, adapted to be embedded in the top edge of an expansion joint.
Figure 2 illustrates the expansion joint (a) having a crowning strip (6) in place, held in position by the anchoring prongs.
Figure 3 illustrates the expansion-joint (0) in position with the crowning strip (1)), fastened in place by the prongs (0) having poured on either .side concrete (0i). The clowning strip (12) in this instance can readily be removed, and in Figure 4 all that is left in 'place after. the removal of the crowning strip (1)) is the expansion joint (0) held in place by the concrete walls .The open space previously occupied by (b) in Figure 5 is shown to be occupied by a filling composition (e) which may be either poured, laid, or fastened on the base strip (0) between the concrete walls My invention relates particularly to mastic expansion material, and does not contemplate the use of metal. I
I claim v 1. A joint crown installing device, comprising a strip providing a temporary crown for the expansion oint, said strip having impaling means on its underside adapted to be embedded in the material of the joint for detachably securing the strip to the joint,
2. A joint crown installing device, comprising a woodenstrip having a transverse dimension equal to that of an expansion joint, and having impaling prongs driven through the thickness of the same and pro jecting from its under side, said prongs being adapted to be embedded in the material of the joint for detachably securing the strip to the joint and maintaining an alignment of the strip and joint to'completely fill' up the'space to be equipped with the joint.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, on this 8th day of October, A. D., 1925.
ALBERT G. FISCHER.
