To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Fnnnnnioi O. BALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of WVayne and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Reatomizers, of Which the following is a specification.
This invention is designed to atomize liquids which are deposited on the walls 'of intake passages leading to explosive engines. Such devices have heretofore been made but this construction increases the spraying action of the device and siniplifies its construction.I It also offers comp-aratively little resistance to the infiowing mixture.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follovvs:-

1 marks the cylinders, 2 the intake manifolds having the intake passage 2% and 3 a carburetor controlled by the usual throttleI 4. I have shown an especial type of carburetor but it. will be understood that any carburetor may be used with this device.
The intake passage 2a is provided with a flange 5 andthe carburetorwith a flange 6 to facilitate securing them together. I insert between these flanges alitting 7 in the form of a ring and clamp it between the flanges 5 and 6 by means of screws Ta.
The fitting 7 has an'annular groove 8 in its upper face and its walls as 9 are outside of the line of the walls of the intake passage, these walls tapering toward the bottom end 10 to the top of the carburetor. A re-atomizer ring 11 is inserted within thewalls 9 and there is formed between the ring 11 and the wall 9 an annular chamber 12, the lower end of the ring forming a lip leading from nular opening to the intake passage so as to obstruct and receive ingoing liquid. The ring is provided with a flan ge 13 which seats in the annular groove 8 and is clamped in place .as the fitting is clamped in place. A nozzle in the form of a Venturi tube 1-1 is arranged at the center of the rincf 11 and mounted on bars 15 leading to the rmg, these 1921. Serial NO. 458,136.
bars having passages 16 connecting the Chamber 12 with the throat of the Venturi tube.
It Will readily be observed thatV as the liquid follows up the Walls of the carburetor it is obstructed and received into the 'chamber 12 carried by the passages 16 to the Venturi tube where itis again sprayed into the ingoing mixture. The Venturi tube creating a low point of pressure induces a flow of fluid or mixture'into the chamber 12 out through the passage so as to facilitate the collecting of any ingoing liquid and also to thoroughly break up this liquid and deliver it into the ingoing mixture in the form of spray.
I prefer to provide the intake passage with a passage venturi 17. T his is formed of spun sheet metal with a throat 18 at the elevation of the discharge of the venturi 14 so as to 4give a double venturi effect. The Venturi tube 17 is provided With a fiange. 19 4which is seated over the flange 13 and clamped in place With the ring as the fitting 7 is clamped in place.
The ring 11 With its parts forms a very shallow construction which can be readily formed by die Casting in a single operation and gives an efficient construction in that it offers very little resistance to the inflowing air and also induces a very high sp1-a3.'ii1'g effect through the passages 16.

In a re-atomizer, the combination of a fitting having a seat therein and an annular groove forming one wall of a Chamber; a re-at0mizer ring seated in the seat in the fitting and forming with the groove a chamberV receiving an ingoing liquid; a nozzle connected with the Chamber and carried b'y the ring and discharging into the mixture passing through the ring, and a connection between the nozzle and the Chamber.
' 4. In a re-atomizer, the combination of a fitting having a seat therein and an annular groove forrmng one wall of a ehamber; a re-atomizer ring seated in the seat in the fitting and forming with the groove a chamber receiving an ingoing liquid; a nozzle carried by the ring and discharging into the mixture passing through the ring; a connection between the Chamber and the Lseost nozzle and a Ventur tube having a flanged base and seating on the ring in the fitting.
5. In a re-atomizer, the combination of a fitting having a seat therein and an annular groove formlng one wall of a Chamber; a re-atomizer ring seated in the Seat in the fitting and forming with the groove a chamber receiving an ingoing liquid; a 'nozzle carried by the ring and discharging into the mixture passing through the ring; a connection between the Chamber and the nozzle and a Venturi tube having a flanged base and seating on the ring in the fitting. the throat of the ventur being at the level of the discharge of the nozzle and the nozzle being in the form of a Venturi tube.
