tain new and useful Improvements in Circuit Breakers for Motor Vehicles, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to circuit breakers for motor vehicles; and the object is to provide a safety device for motor vehicles which is controlled by the spark lever lor preventing the starting motor "from being started by an advance spark and prevents and thus prevents the breaking or locking of any of the starting unit or apparatus which would result from back-firing. Other objects and advantages will be fully explained in the following description and the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this apphcation.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the safety device, or circuit breaker. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the steering column and the spark rod and the fuel control rod with the circuit breaker mounted thereon. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same shown on broken portions of the steering column and the spark control rod and the fuel control rod. Fig. i illustrates the clamp 'for attaching the circuitbreaker to the spark control rod.

have invented cer- I The switch starter end 9 is connected to a stationary arm 10 by a contact bolt 11 and insulated from the arm 10 by fibre 12, being secured in place on the contact bolt 11 by suitable nuts. The battery end or termina 13 is connected to a movable arm 1% which is made rigid with the spark control rod 1: by a clamp 15 which is bolted to the arm 1 1. The arm 14 is provided with insulation 16 which is mounted on each side of the arm 14l on a contact bolt 1'? and secured in place by nuts 18.
The circuit breaker is installed by sevcring the wire or cable which leads from the starter switch (usually positioned on the floor board) to the battery. The switch end 9 of the cable is connected to the arm or point 10 which is rigid with the bracket clamp l and 5 by the means above described. The battery end 18 of the cabic is attached to the stationary arm iawhich is rigid with the spark control rod 2 a above described. The arm 14 can thus be rocked or vibrated by the spark control rod 2 and the arm 14- is so positioned on the rod 2 that it will be swung back and forth in the cut-out in the clamp member 5. This construction keeps the contact bolt 17 in line with the contact bolt 11, consequently the spark control rod 2 can be used to make contact of the severed ends or the cable.
Y'Vhat we claim is,-
1. In a motor vehicle provided with spark and fuel control rods, and a steering column; a circuit breaker for said motor vehicle comprising a bracket mounted on said rods and provided with an arm projecting therefrom, a contact stationary with said arm and bracket and said backet having means for insulating said contact therefrom, a movable contact, an arm fixedly n'iounted on said spark control rod for carrying and actuating said movable contact to make connection with said stationary contact, and means for varying the positions of said contacts,
2. In a motor vehicle provided-with spark and fuel control rods, and a steering column; a circuit breaker for said motor vehicle comprising a bracket mounted on said rods and having a guide slot in one end and an arm stationary therewith and project ing from the other end thereof, a contact adjustably mounted on said arm, a movable contact, an arm fixedly mounted on said spark control rod for carrying and' actuating said i'novable contact and adapted to swing in said guide slot, and means for insulating said contact from said arms.
3. in a motor vehicle provided With a steering column, spark and fuel control rode; a circuit breaker mounted on said steering column and consisting of bracket clamp in two parts pivotallyconnected to gether at one end and a bolt pivotally connecting the other ends, a stationary arm struck from the lower bracket member and pro'ected through the upper member, the opposite ends 01" said bracket clamp menihers having guide slots therein a contact arm rigidly connected to said spark control rod and adapted to swing in said guide slots, a contact bolt projected through said stationary arm and insulated therefrom, a contact bolt projected through said movable arm and insulated thereirom, said contact bolts being adapted to close a circuit when said movable arm is rocked towards said stationary arm.
