UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY L. MOREAU, or mm; morne, New YORK.
COLLAPSIBLE-TUBE CLSUBE.
I appiiation inea Ngvmber s, 1925. seriai Nq. 67,365.
` is limited in its movement an'd is prevented from accidental loss or displacement.
It is to be understood that while I shall describe my improved closure in connection with a collapsible tube it is Obvious that the closure has a broader scope in its inventive concept as I do not wish to be limited to the combination ofa ollapsible'tube although this is its primary'use. Y
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure'l is a view in longitudinal section through a tube and closure cap therefor,-
showing the cap in its fully opened position; Figure 2 is a similar view, showing the cap in closed position;
` Figure 3 is a view,` similar to Figure 1,`
illustratinga modification.
1 represents a receptacle, which we will assumeY isan. ordinary collapsible tube -adapted to contain paste, soap 'orrany otherA material 2 which can be forced or discharged when the tube is collapsed. This tube l is formed at its outlet end with a screwthreaded plug 3, the latter havingapassage 'd therethrough. opening at .one sideof the plngxand constituting an outletfor the contents of the tube.
5 represents a cap or closure which internallyscrew-threaded as shown at 6 so as to mesh-with the threads of plug 3 and adapted to be screwed downwardly to a position such as shown in Figure 2 to constitute a closure for the passage 4 Aand adapted also to biehscrewed in4the opposite ldrection to open 'e assage as seen in igure 1.
MyV vinventien resides specifically in means for the movementof the closure or cap 5 on the plug 3. In Figure l I illustrate as a limiting means a cord or other flexible member 7 which is secured -at-one end to the cap 5 and at its other end to the plug 3, and this cord or flexible device is of a length .which allows the cap to be moved a limited distance, as shown in Figure 1, but not far enough to be entirely removed from 'the plug 3, preventing any possibility of loss of the cap or closure. 1When the cap is screwed downwardly to close the outlet the cord 7 will coil or otherwise shape itself, as indicated in Figure 2.
In the modification illustrated in Figure 3, I provide a cup-like receptacle 8 at the upper end of plug 3 and forman opening 9 in the outerwall of said receptacle. In this modification I employ a flexible device such as a cord 10 which is secured to the cap 5 and which projects through the opening 9, and has on its lower end Within the receptacle 8 a ball or other form of enlargement l1 which is of greater diameter than the opening 9. By reason of this construction, the flexible cord or device will move through the opening 9 when the cap is screwed home and will collect or coil within the receptacle 8 and prevent the possibility of the cord becoming jammed or entangled in the screw-threaded parts. Various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from 'my invention and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such -slightchanges and alterations as fairly fall within the spiritV and scope of the appended claims. 1 I claim: I Y
-1. A device of the character described,
including a collapsible tube, an externally I i screw-threaded neck on vthe tube having an outlet in the side wall thereof, a screwthreaded cap meshing with vthe threads'of the necky and* adapted when screwed inwardly to close the 'outlet, a flexible-device enclosed entirely within the cap connected' at its respective ends to the cap and the neck to limit the outwardmovement ofthe'cap, said neck having a pocket in its outer end,
and an enlargement on said-flexible `device located in said pocket, the extremity of the neck having an 1o therein for the movement of the e 'ble device, andv said pocket adantedfo accommodate the iexiblel device therein. when the cover is screwed to its closing position, i f 2. The combination with a dispensing 5 tube having a neck thereon and an outlet in the side of the neck, of a cap movable 1on- Vgitudinally ofthe neck and adapted to cut i o the outlet when in one extreme position and uncover the outlet when in another` extreme position, and a flexible device located entirely within .the capand connecting the end of the neck with the end of the cap to limifl the movementiof the cap in one directiom HENRY L. MORAU.
