Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM MURPHY, OF PETITOODIAC, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN ORGAN TR'EADLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,000, dated December 2'2, 1874 application filed August 22, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM MURPHY, of Petitcodiac, in the county of VVestmoreland, Province of New Brunswick and Dominion of Canada, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Organ-Treadles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a plan view of my organ-pedal. Fig. 2 is a front "iew, Fig. 3 is a side View, and Fig. 4 is a detail view, of the same.
This invention has relation to organ blowpedals; and it consists in so constructing and arranging such pedals that they can be reversed and used either side up, whereby when one side wears out the other can be brought into use, and, if it is desired, one side may be commonly covered for ordinary use, and the other side may be highly ornamented and used merely for show, as will be fully understood from the following description.
In the annexed drawings, A A designate the base or floor, on which the pedals B B are supported, and G G G are standards, which are rigidly secured to the base A, and constructed with notches b, which afi'ord bearings for the pivots p p of the pedals, which pivots are prevented from casual displacement by means of springs 8. These springs allow the pedals to be detached from the standards and reversed. O O designate straps, by which the pedals are attached to the bellows, which straps are pivoted centrally at c to rocking plates 0 0, and these in turn are pivoted to lugs e e, which are secured to the ends of the pedals. The pivoted straps G 0 thus allow the pedals to be turned over without detaching them from the bellows mechanism.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a reed-organ or similar musical instrument, a detachable and reversible blow-pedal, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The straps G, pivoted to rocking plates 0 on the ends of reversible pedals B, as described.
3. The standards 0, notched at b, and provided With springs s, in combination with reversible pedals, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM MURPHY.
Witnesses:
