ATE? @FFEQE.
CLAUD A. FRANKLIN, OF KANSAS CITY, KANSAS.
MAN'URE AND STRAW CUTTER.
Application filed March 7, 1925.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CLAUD A. FRANKLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Wyandotte and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Manure and Straw Cutter, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a cutting device for straw, manure, and refuse piles, and has for its principal object to provide a device of this nature which is both efficient and reliable, and has means for supporting a plurality of weight elements, the number of which may be varied to suit circumstances.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a cutting mechanism of this nature which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to handle, strong, durable and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure l is a side elevation of the device emgloodying the features of my invention, an
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that a pair of beams 5 are held in parallel spaced relationship by the cross members 6 and 7 which are fixed thereto by means of bolts 8 and 9 respectively. The rear ends of the beams 5 merge into diverging upwardly slanting handles 10 while the forward ends of the beams are curved up- 1 wardly as is indicated to advantage in Figure 1.
Journal brackets 11 are attached to the Serial No. 13,932.
beams 5 and have rotatably mounted therein an axle 12 of a disc cutter 13. A standard 14 rises from the cross member 7 and a pair of rods 15 are connected to the upper end thereof and extend down to be connected to intermediate portions of the means 5 and then extend upwardly to be attached to cross member 6. The eye-bolts 8 are used for attaching draft chains 17 A plate 18 is mounted on each beam 1 and has a pair of pins 19 rising therefrom so that a plurality of weight segments may be rested on the platform with the pins 19 passing through openings therein. The number of these weight segments may be varied to suit circumstances in order that the cutter may properly'sever and cut up the manure, straw, and refuse piles.
It is thought that the construction, operation, and advantages of the invention will now be clearly understood without a more detailed description thereof. It will be apparent that the present embodiment of the invention which I have disclosed by way of example attains all the features of advantages enumerated as desirable in the statement ofthe invention, and that numerous changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is A device of the class described including a frame comprising a pair of longitudinal parallel spaced beams, an axle jo-urnaled on the beams extending transversely thereof, a disc cutter on the axle between the beams, a plate on each beam above the axle, pins rising from the plates, a weight on each plate having an opening for receiving the pins.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CLAUD A. FRANKLIN.
