IMPROVMENT IN OIL-BOXES FOR MINE-CAR WHEELS.

ing is a full, clear, and correct description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
We are both of us practical mechanics, and the ordinary mine-car Wheel, which is made of cast-iron, having attracted our attention, We nd the wheel requires to be oiled at least twice, and frequently as often as ve and six times, each day when it is in use, and there is generally enough oil used at each time to lubricate the journal for one Week if properly applied. After careful thought and experiment We have discovered a method of saving this Waste of oil and labor.
Our improvement is shown in Figures 1 and 2, in plan and section; and consists of an oilcup, A, for the purpose of preventing the oil from escaping through E, and receiving oil from B, which passes through E, and lubricates the journal. The height of this cup determines the capacity of the boX, which, in this case, is calculated to hold enough oil for one Weeks use. Afeedingplug, B, which, at each revolution of the Wheel, on reaching the position shown in the drawing, deposits one or two or more drops of oil, according to its size, in the cup A, and a thimble, O, on the inside of charging-hole F, for the purpose of preventing oil from escaping therefrom, thereby dispensing with the plug in F, which is troublesome to remove for the purpose i-toiling, and also to keep in its place. l y
Figs. 3, 4, and 5 represent, in plan, oil-cup A, feeding-plug B, and thimble O, respectively, all of which may be formed in the core of the oil-box in the process of molding the Wheel, Which would require such a small amount ot' extra work that it Would not form an item in the cost of the Wheel.
Having thus described our invention, we claim- The oil-cup A, the feeding-plug B, and the thimble C, combined in the oil-box of mine-car Wheels, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
