To all whom it may concern: I
lie it known that I, GUs'rAvn Elinscnnn,
a cltizen of the United States, residing at Meriden, in the county of New vHaven and State of Connecticut,
/ have invented a new and useful Improvement in Outlet Boxes and PlatesTherefor; and I do hereby-'de clare the 'tollo'wing,.when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent,

This invention relates to improvement in outlet-boxes and plates therefor, and particularly in outlet boxes as arranged in side-walls and with which wall brackets are connected. The object of this invention is to provide an outlet-box with which a plate may be detach'abl-y connected, which plate may carry an electrical mounting of any desired form, and which may be interchanged one for the other, and the invention consists in'the construction as hereinafter described and. particularly recited in the claims. i i
In carrying'out my invention, I. employ an outlet-box 10, of any approved form, as herein shown, being provided with lugs 11, by which it may be secured in place, and
also provided with screw-holes 12, by which it may be'secured in position, according to where the box is located. This box is provided with the usual clearance-opening 13 for circuit-wires '14 and 15, which lead to binding-screws 16 and 17 in electrical con- .nection'with contact-plates 18 and 19,'which are mounted in a block 20 of insulating material located in'the box between inclined guideways 21 and 22 formed integral with v the box and inclined pins "or other electrical ,appliance.'
"seria .No. 625,482. I
the bottom of which are sockets 23 and 2% forthe' purpose as will hereinafter}appear. The block 20 rests upon a longitudi'nally-corrugated plate25,
of spring metal' i'no'unted in the bottonrof the box, so as toform af-yielding bearin for the block, 20- against inward pressure, and thisplate is formed, at its lower end with l a springsfinger 26 againstrwhich the 'bloclr'may be block is remo'vably secured in "place by means of a bolt wall of the box and the spring'plate 25,
the slot in the box being narrower than the diameter of the nut applied to the outer end of the bolt. A wallplatef29 mayl'also be of any approved design, and mounting two 30 and .31 adapted, respective ly, to engage with the guides 21 and 22 and be thereby guided into thesockets '23 and '24, whereby'the plate is firmly secured in position.
connected by wires 35 and 36 to'a lamp- 27, which extendsthrough a clearance-slot 28 formed for it in the inner This plate also mounts afbloclr 32 of insulating material having contact surfaces 33 and. 34 arrangedto engage with I the contacts 18 and 19, these contacts being downwardly" mov ed; This I socket 37flmounted on an arm 38 secured i in the'face-plate. et and arm, theface-plate may be provided with a plug-receiving member which 'a plug of usual constructionmay be connected when it is desired to electrically connect a vacuum cleaner, a cooking utensil,
it is desireditouse a plain plate to cover an outlet-box where no electrical connection is to be made. this plate may be a blank plate provided with pins 30 and 31, by which it'may be connected with the outlet box. hen used for any other than ornamental purposes, the plate may consist merely of a strip sufl'icient in extent to mount Insteadiof the la1np-sock- 39, with Org-in case the pins 30'and 31 and theblock 32. As
the face-plate is moved sltion, the inclination it against the wall, so as to -1nake a close fit therewith, and the spring-plate 25 and the spring-finger 26 provide for, yielding movement of the block20 to insure proper electrical contact withthe block32.
I thus provide,
in a very simple way, an outlet box 'with which a fixture of any dedownward, into p0 of the P1118 draws sired type may be connected, the fixture itself being completely w ired, s0 that it may be removed and replaced by another fixture when desired.
I claim: I
1.,Th'e eoinbi11ation'.with an outlet box formed on opposite sides with integral, in clined guide-ways, and; with sockets at the lower ends thereof, of a contact-block arranged between the said gum-aways; and a face-plate provided with inclined pins adapted to enter the said sockets. I
2. The combination with an outlet box formed (in opposit' sides with integral, in clined guideways, andn'ithsockets at the lower ends thereof, of a contact-block yieldingly mounted between the saidguideways, and a faceplate provided with inclined pins adapted to enter the said sockets.
3. The combination with an outlet bol formedoi'i opposite megma;integra i11 clined guideways, and: With sockets at the provided with inclined pins adapted to enter the said sockets.
A; The combination with an 'outletbon formed on opposite sides with integral in clined giiideii ays, ai'id with sockets at the lower ends thereof, of a contact-block, ar-' ranged between-said guideways, a spring betii ee-n said block and box, whereby the block is yieldingly supported against inward p i essure and a face-plate provided with in-- clined adaptedto enter said sock ts.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification eesnve EQ- I'QASCi-iUB.-
